Scooter thieves

I have just witnessed two young lads try to steal a neighbours scooter on Shakespeare Road. I went outside to see what they were doing and they ran off up Shakespeare Road towards the Myrtle Road x-cross. They were both wearing puffer jackets (one black, one blue), with the hoods up.I informed my neighbour and she discovered a screw had been placed in the ignition.

That sounds like vandalism - rather than trying o steal it.Just as irritating though.

They use the screw to pull the barrel of the lock out then use a screw driver to start it

Thanks for confirming my suspicion Mark. I noticed the same two boys earlier, loitering around and thought then that they were up to no good. The one thing I did notice was that they were both wearing ties, so I suspect they had school uniforms on under their puffer jackets.Scooter/moped/motorbike owners beware!

Some years ago we witnessed an attempted theft of a scooter . While my husband stopped them in the act and challenged them, I took pictures from the window of my flat. I was discreet. The police found these pictures really useful.If you know the owner get them to put a bicycle lock on scooters as this will deter joy riders.

Sara mis spent youthchains and padlocks chained to floor as kids with steal them but locked ones professional thieves will just pull up and pick up the whole bike in to van
