Parking Chaos on Fridays

Maybe it is time that Morrisons started checking just who is using their car park, especially on Fridays! The car park is overflowing and I am pretty sure that not everyone is a Morrison's customer.It was the same story at The Oaks car park, we just couldn't find a space anywhere this afternoon and finally had to go and do our shopping in Ealing Broadway!This is not only at Easter time but every Friday Morrison's car park is a nightmare!

I'm personally on duty at the Mosque for Friday prayers and I can guarantee that I do not direct people to the Morrison's car park. We inform people where the free places are in Acton and Public car parks only. If attendees themselves abuse Morrison's car park just like others do and go to the High Street on other days that is themselves and can not be attribute to the Mosque. I have personally raised the parking situation in Acton with the council also. Personally as a father of a disabled child I have seen people misusing the Blue badge and I have NO hesitation in reporting them, attendees of the mosque or not.

I don't think I understand the arrangement Morrisons have with the Council re parking. I think I remember when Safeway were applying for planning permission, there was a clause inserted in the contract re the provision of some public parking. This was pre the building of the Mosque of course. Any wise person understand what the supermarket commitment? They have never adopted validation required by other supermarkets.

I remember when the mosque was being built there were promises and guarantees that it wouldn't cause parking problems in Acton.Once again the council fell for it...

Of course...hasnt everyone?A Tailor may know - do many of those attending the mosque drive? arent most most worshipers fairly local?

I am pretty sure there is some arrangement in existence for public car parking. Perhaps one of our councilors could ask the Environment department to let us know what the original contract was and whether it was every reviewed as Acton changed? Shall I ask Dan Crawford to ask the question formally?

My argument isn't with the mosque, it's with Ealing Council for, yet again, falling for the bull given by people putting in a planning application which is exactly what's happened with the mosque.  Of course the mosque is going to attract people who drive and of course they have to park somewhere and of course they're going to try to get free parking.Would be interesting to see a shopkeepers point of view - does it actually make any difference to takings?  If all the people parking during Friday Prayers actually buy something, maybe it would help the local economy?!

Pete - I'm saying that Friday prayers at the mosque have a direct effect on parking and traffic in Acton. If you go to the car parks during this time there are lots of muslims parking their cars - coincidence?!I don't really care who parks and when and have no problem with the mosque, but it makes me laugh that when they went for planning permission there were numerous local queries on parking and traffic we were all assured that nobody would drive to the mosque and it wouldn't cause parking blockages which is untrue and which just helps my anti-council agenda (!)However, it's not that much of a big deal as it only seems to happen on a Friday during Friday prayers, so us locals who might need to drive, can easily work round it.  At least it's consistent every week.

I have to be honest the vast majority I see do come by foot, some do use public transport and by car. With regards to local shops I know for a fact that the Mosque does bring extra trade to them, especially on Fridays. I seen people who do their Friday prayers in the Mosque and then afterwards in Morrisons. On the other side, there's a problem on all other days with non-Mosque users using the Mosque car parking spaces, whether to go to the high street, council estate, health center etc

I know for a fact if The Avenue was made free as opposed to how it is now in a parking zone and there's hardly any vehicles parked there during the day It would bring benefit to all with extra trade in the Town Center, but with Council charges still going up, how many more shops can survive!
