Places to eat in Chiswick

A friend and I are trying to find a good place to eat in or around Chiswick. (No slur on Acton - we've been to all the good places there too many times and are looking for something new.)Sam's Brasserie has been suggested but, while good, it looks rather expensive. Any ideas for eating for about £25/30 per head without wine?

Charlotte's Bistro in Turnham Green Terrace do a great early diner offer and the food is very good.

Try the new Villagio. I haven't yet but it looks like they have a pretty good lunch deal.If you find a bargain somewhere.....let us all know.Chiswick has got a bit silly price-wise.

If you go to la Trompette on a weekday before 1930 and don't drink wine, there's a great early bird bargain

If you can go at lunch time you can't beat La Trompette, Michael Nadra is also very good, the lunch menu is exactly the same as the evening menu but considerably cheaper

Unfortunately we are meeting for dinner - so any suggestions for a reasonable meal price would be welcome. I do baulk at paying £50 a head (without wine) for something that isn't absolutely heavenly.

Franco Manca. Excellent Pizza and very cheap and there are a number of pubs nearby to relax afterwards. Can't book though.

If you fancy Italian, we sometimes go to La Tarantella on Elliot Road (parallel to Turnham Green Terrace) off the high road, a small independent that offers good food at a reasonable price with a very pleasant atmosphere, and the wine list is fairly good to boot I’m told (I prefer the Peroni).I have no stake in the restaurant, just a satisfied customer, they also have a website with menu and wine list so I’m told.

You have got Union Jacks, Strada, Sam's which is good, or why not meet at Carvossos for a drink & possibly eat there they do a 2 or 3 course meal offer, and take a wander along the High Road to make your mutual choice?

'Fanous', great little Persian restaurant. Very reasonable, and very atmospheric.

It's in the less 'glitzy' part, if you drive down Acton Lane towards Sainsburys (HSBC is opposite), you turn right at that junction and it is the little blue and yellow restaurant on the right.Cheap and cheerful and the meat grill for 4 is really good value. There is a restaurant opposite too, that is supposed to be very good but I've never been in it. Also a couple of Thai places that are in the same block.

I looked it up. It's called Faanoos actually but their website is not working. Hope that doesn't bode ill.Actually Persian food is pretty good value....especially if you are fairly carnivorous. I prefer Lebanese, but hard to find a good one these days. (anyone know one?)

Loriental is our good local Lebanese. And better than much fancier and more expensive places in town

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. Thought I'd let you know what we did in the end. For various reasons, we decided to go to Kalamari, on the corner of Chiswick High Road and Goldhawk Road - a very untrendy Greek restaurant. Given where we were, I had kalamari for a starter. It was a bit rough and ready but obviously made on the premises (not out of a packet) and not bad at all. I also had kleftiko - slow-cooked lamb - which was fabulous: beautifully seasoned and a huge portion on the bone. And the Greek salad that we shared was lovely and refreshing. The service was attentive, esp. when my friend keeled over (she's suffering bouts of low blood pressure at the moment) - they were quite happy for her to simply lie across two chairs until she felt better (and we were sitting at a window table!).With service included (and one glass of wine and one bottle of water for drink), the bill came to about £64 - a little bit more than I wanted to spend but we both felt that it was a fair price for what we got.So that's a 'Yes' then!
