Council Tax Query

I note that although our Council Tax bill is £5 less than last year we are still paying £370+ to the Greater London Authority. That extra charge was for the Olympics we were told. Well, they've been and gone and we are still paying it, which is what I thought would happen.I resented it in the first place. Have we now got to pay for various football stadiums?Anyone know what we can do about this?

Sarah,Ken Livingstone's "Walnut Whip Tax" was due to last for 10 years from 2006 until 2016.  It will be interesting to see if it becomes an electoral issue for the next mayoral election in 2016.  Making sure we all get a reduction would be a good Conservative election promise I think.

Well, Phil, that's interesting. I wasn't aware that it was supposed to last that long.The figures don't tally with my bill though.

Yes, I gave old precept amounts in my table.  This year Boris has reduced his tax, the GLA Precept, by 1.2%.  Band E is now £370.33.
