And here's the full quote as I'm sick of hearing it taken out of context.  I'm no Maggie lover, but isn't it funny that most of her policies are still around.  If they were that bad, why didn't Labour change them when they were in power?  Hypocrites the lot of them.I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand “I have a problem, it is the Government’s job to cope with it!” or “I have a problem, I will go and get a grant to cope with it!” “I am homeless, the Government must house me!” and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society? There is no such thing! ....'help those who are unfortunate"...I say that there is not a fixed group of unfortunates. Many of us, who have worked for our living and are not married to a rich person or born with a silver spoon in our mouths, have suffered  unemployment or  sickness at times in our lives. When it happens we have, up till now that is, a welfare state and do not have to beg for charity. Srrangely, Thatcher had a horror of the welfare state but in practice doubled the number on sickness benefits as she presided over the collapse of industry after industry mainly in the North, Midlands and Wales. The real horror, for me, is that our welfare state where everyone puts in through their taxes according to their income  and takes out when they need it, is now in the sights of Thatcher's mealy-mouthed followers in the millionaire Cameron Government. The witch may be dead but the wizards are there, conjuring up their foul remedies.

Well, Milliband is cetainly a millionaire - as are the rest of his family.Gordon Brown sold off all our gold......and Blair got us involved a a war unnecessarily which costs billions and is now personally worth millions.Please do not blame the Conservatives for this country's countries present situation.Everyone who has paid into it must agree that the NHS needs reform - and that is going to be difficult.  Sorting out who is entitled to receive treatment and who is not, is going to be the big issue.Is it not an insurance scheme - which should not be used by those who have not paid into it?

:- Right to buy.  A vote winner at the time.  Buy your council house for a pittance, sell it a few years later for a nice fat profit, in most cases, never to return for the use of those in desperate need of social housing.:- The Bedroom tax. Penalising people living in social housing for having what the government now rules as 'a spare bedroom'. A last, desperate attempt to claw back social housing room-space a consequence of the thousands of council houses that were sold off, no more built to replace them.A friend of mine bought their council flat. Years later,  after moving out of the area to live with their partner, they were letting the flat BACK to the council.  They received rental income from the council, even at times when the council didn't have a tenant in there.I once read that the benefit system came into being due to the fears and concerns of 'those more fortunate than ourselves', with regards to their own personal safety, and protecting their wealth.

I went to her sending off party last night - good fun. If I go, it will be turn my back on her - though we must not forget that Bliar and the Labour party did not reverse her policies and are equally as responsible for the mess we are in. I think one of the worst things she ever did was sell off the council housing and not allow councils to even ringfence that money to built new homes. The banking disaster we are now in, is partly due to the ridiculous prices of housing stock. Do you know that in Denmark the Gov fixes the house price. Ps I hear she is currently trying to privatise Hell as we speak.

Ha! Carrie, very good. If you disagree with the state funeral in all but name, due to the massive cost, wear red on Wednesday. Michael Foot's funeral cost the taxpayer £0.

Went via St Paul's underground station to see the Lichtenstein at the Tate this evening.My goodness, there's a serious ring of steel being erected all round St Paul's Cathedral. No wonder it's costing £10 million - most of it must be on what looks like wholly disproportionate gates and barriers.We didn't have anything like that for the Queen's Jubilee Service in the same place and there wasn't a problem.

'I would only go and show my back, I lived through the Thatchers regime and was not impressed then, and nothing has changed I still feel the same.'I have clear memories of how my parents struggled in the 70s, mostly because of inflation in excess of 25%, although the constant strikes and power cuts didn't help. These were unskilled workers who had both left school at 14 -- decent, honest, hard-working people who could scarcely put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads, let alone afford new clothes or holidays. Life became much easier for them in the 80s, under Thatcher, and now they have a few savings to help eke out their ninth decade.What short memories people have!

£10 million to burn the witch at Mortlake.  I refuse to go in the same oven.Poll Tax. Labour electable.  Communities destroyed.  Tony Blair, Thatcher incarnate.  £10m would go a long way for the NHS, definitely not safe in Tory hands.
