Crossrail / HSR - a vision of the future?

I was randomly trawling the web and found this document showing speculated plans for Park Royal / Old Oak Common. Its from 2011 and for those who may have missed it ...http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Images/110907_OOC-report-low_tcm21-167835.pdf..... its not short on ambition.

thanks Richard, that was really interesting. As someone who works in Canary Wharf, I'm living first hand with what investment can bring to an underdeveloped area.The only question I had, was does the suggestion of having crossrail here impact the proposed Crossrail station at Acton mainline which I will find a huge benefit, not only for travelling to work and the West end, but also what we'll likely see in house price effect in the area (i.e. a jump).Regards, Carl

Hi Carl This is an old and highly speculative plan and there is no suggestion that it will affect Crossrail at Acton. But my guess - and it is a guess only - is that there is a kind of inevitability to what will happen at Old Oak Common over the next 20 years - especially if they build HS2.I have often wondered why an area that is little inhabited , with excellent communications and only three miles from Central London - has not yet been developed for housing - given our housing crisis.As the plans themselves say - most people don't know Old Oak Common is even there.

Thanks for that.Do you think it's a bad thing? What am I missing if anything? It all looks good to me - more investment, more jobs, better transport connections, more retail - is it really win-win?Carl

The truth is I don't know - I thought / think Crossrail is a good thing - but having seen how rampant some of the developers are in covering Acton with flats ( eg the plan for the Periscope) I now think we wil probably gain something and lose something
