South Downs walking programme

Anne Wood and I had our first walk last Sunday. Alfreston to Eastbourne. The return ticket from london was £10.50 Downlander special. We walked easily in glorious sunshine and had a lovely pub lunch half way along. I have had  some enquiries and want to encourage any interested people to come along with us next time. We will walk again next Sunday, Eastbourne to Alfreston via the Seven sisters. A slightly longer coastal route. If newcomers join us, we will consider a shorter walk. PM me please if interested.

What sort of mileage are we talking about?

I think questions about  mileage, the routr and so are most compkwtwly answered by looking  at the South Downs Way website. The Seven sisters route is about 10 miles. The alternative is to walk westwards from Akfreston to Southease or Berwick which would be shorter for a first outing.

Five of us are walking this coming Sunday, leaving from Shepherds Bush station on the 8.40 train, coffee in hand. Any final additions to our number give me a pm. Met several people at the drinks on Wednesday evening who expressed interest. no ttime to write to you all. You are welcome.

Missed the drinks due to son's 22nd birthday. Were there lots of people? Sounds like it as walkers must surely be a subset.

Yes lots of people and a nice mixed bunch too. More than would fit at the big table outside the Station House. A nice evening. Several new people with more people joining the CCA Im told.Walkers group growing too. Eight originally  booked but the hay fever season grounded one. Looking forward to tomorrow

A book group o a summer Sunday afternoon especially if you are reading Proust takes  rare dedication. If you blow it off we are now up again to seven people, more if Benedicte's children are coming. Late comers and last minute planners are always welcome. Should be a fine day. We meet at 8.40 at Shepherds Bush station. Wear decent shoes or boots.

Will go for a walk in the morning - probably the next stage of the project to walk from Kings Place to Birmingham along the Grand Union Canal (Alperton here we come) and then back in time to be blown away by Proust.

Eight of us walked on Sunday anding up in Southease. Terrific walk with freat views. A bit windy on the top of the Downs but refreshing and great company. Lunch at Alfreston a contender for the prettiest village in England. The fourth walk will be two weeks time. If you are thinking of joining us please pm me. You will need to buy a Downlander ticket on line from the Southern website. No worries if you only want to walk part of the way.

Yesterday we walked from South Ease to Ditching Beacon. Glorious summer day. We brought a picnic and listened to the skylarks singing melodious. Returned to London via Brighton. We will walk from Ditchling beacon eastwards next Sunday. 7th July. Please let us know if you are interested in coming along.

The Ditchling Beacon walk  will take place 14th July, that is Sunday. There are five people currently coming, with a possible two children. Would you like to join us on Sunday? Leaving Shepherds Bush station at 8.40. Bring a hat, water, good walking shoes and prepare for glorious views, larks singing overhead, delightful countryside, a sense of achievement and great company. PM if interested.

Yesterday we walked from Ditchling Beacon to Southsea, taking in a glorious Grade 1 listed church which was holding a delightful flower festival and a National Trust summer cafe which had loads of shady space to sit and drink tea out of flowery china. We all enjoyed the wonderful views and the warm breeze blowing up from the sea. Back in Acton by 6.30, in time to have a drink and supper with family and friends. Next walk in about two weeks. PM if interested in walking with us. Usually possible to do half the walk and retire for lunch if that is what suits.

Lovely day for walking with a little breeze and bright sunshine. We missed all the rain. Picnic at the top of CHANCTONBURY HILL/RING : and would have liked to see the Morris dancers here at dawn on May morning. Plenty of Gurkas in evidence as the charity walk over the whole of the South Downs had just ended. Brilliant cake and tea from a flowery teapot at Amberley tea house, over looking the river.  complete with swan. Home in London by 7pm. Next walk will be from Amberley to Cocking. We are well over half way to Winchester, so if you are thinking of joining us, PM now for dates etc. All welcome including people who would like to walk part of the way.
