New Zebra crossings

There seem to be two new ones coming: one outside the Saudi school in East Acton Lane and the other in East Churchfield Road.I would have thought extra congestion is inevitable but maybe there have been accidents that make having more rather important.Anyone know how they came about?

We acquired one in our road, about fifty yards from our house, some six months ago. It's made no difference to congestion at all.

I'm only really concerned about the one near Homebase - where it gets seriously clogged up already.

It is dangerous crossing by homebase. a zebra crossing would be more than welcome.

I honestly don't think it makes any difference, Sara. If there's a tailback already then it simply divides either side of the crossing with no additional delay.

Goodo.I'm in favour of them - especially near schools etc. but I know not everyone is.Was just surprised to see two, both quite near in East Acton ward, happening simultaneously.

There has been a review of traffic calming and related matters, south of East Acton Lane to The Vale and east of Acton Park. I attended a consultation meeting about a year ago. The work was planned to be in two phases. I asked for some road blockages and one way routes to prevent rat running to avoid the Old Oak Rd/Uxbridge Rd traffic lights, but to no avail......

The problem I find with zebra crossings these days is that people can't be bothered to walk across the actual crossings any more (especially the one on Horn Lane near the junction with Churchfield Road). They tend to wander out in front of approaching vehicles 10 or 20 feet before or after the crossing. It makes me nostalgic for the days when both drivers and pedestrians respected zebra crossings. In those days, their elegant simplicity made them the best road-crossing system in the world. Nowadays, people seem to prefer to play a game of chicken.

Absolutely right, Dee. Don't forget, even Ed Milliband has written articles recently saying that the last Labour government let in too many immigrants, and it does not make a person racist to say this. It's just a fact. The English way of life which I grew up with, including adherence to sensible rules and other forms of fair play, has been lost forever. Very, very sad.

I think you'll find they have been funded by section 106 from the Berkley homes developement on Bromyard Ave, we had a non consultation on  it, don't ask!!!!

Diana, there were two consultation meetings before I moved away from Acton last July. The outcomes were not as I would have preferred but there was consultation......
