Driving no lights

Ive just driven down the A40. Sky is dark. Rain pouring down. Water spray on both sides. Cars doing 50 or more. Half with no lights on. Are they morons?

If you could see them, as you apparently could, then I don't see what they would gain by switching their lights on.

The logic there is that there is no need to put your lights on when driving at night if there are street lights.

It is much easier to see a car that is in the distance if it has lights Susan.Particularly if that car is grey or silver and there are  overcast conditions like we had today.

I keep my car headlights on automatic and it has been known to switch them off if the street lighting is very bright.

My side lights come on automatically when the engine is started.  On automatic, dipped head lights under bridges and Morrisons underground car park, and dull conditions.  There's no excuse for not driving without some sort of lighting in dull or adverse conditions. That's the joy of the Golf Mk 7.

From the highway code226You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236). Law RVLR regs 25 & 27
