Donations to Cancer Research

On Saturday last week I donated about a dozen hand crafted greeting cards to the Cancer Research shop in Ealing Broadway. I called in again on the Monday morning and was surprised that none of the cards went on display in the shop!It would be nice to know what happened to them but the member of staff I asked had no idea! She said that sometimes items are sent to another shop - but why? It was just a dozen cards and they do have a stand in the shop selling cards.I would be reluctant to donate in future if I thought that the cards were not actually being sold to raise money for Cancer Research.

They sell their own cards I think. Not sure what will have happened to yours, which is a shame.

Chris, Cancer Research have special plastic pouches so crafters can insert their hand made cards. The plastic pouches have the Cancer Research Logo and they charge £1 for each card sold.I collected the empty pouches fromtheir King Street Hammersmith branch but took the finished cards to Ealing Broadway where they seemed to have no knowledge of this method, but they were delighted with the cards.That's why I was left wondering what happened to them!I wouldn't mind if the staff purchased them and gave the donation to Cancer Research.

Perhaps they were sold in the shop? I'm not sure I understand what the problem is...

The problem is that I would not have donated my hand crafted cards in the first place if there was no evidence of them being sold to benefit the charity. It does seem odd that none of the cards were on display when I called in 2 days later.Another friend said she donated various donations made on a knitting machine to a charity shop in her area (out of London) but again there was no evidence that her donations were ever sold in that shop.I do not know whether this practice is widespread, nor am I saying that this is what happened to my cards, but it does make one wonder.A
