Horn Lane Pollution - Good news, bad news
Last night's full council meeting was a good news, bad news story for Horn Lane Pollution campaigners. The good news was that councillors unanimously backed this motion:Horn Lane - Effective Action Needed"This Council notes the recent announcement by King’s College London that the monitoring site on Horn Lane, Acton became the first location in London to breach the National Air Quality Strategy Objective for PM10 for the year making it the worst pollution black spot in London.This Council therefore thanks those residents who came to speak at the 16th May Overview & Scrutiny Call-in Meeting about their experiences of having to endure poor air quality and noise pollution as a result of living adjacent to the industrial sites next to Acton Mainline station.The Council welcomes the summit to explore further options that will improve the results for our Acton residents. Council thanks the Portfolio Holder and Leader for their work in securing this summit. Council supports Angie Bray MP’s efforts to organise another adjournment debate in Parliament regarding Horn Lane."Everyone is on the same page. Good. My colleague, Cllr Mark Reen, asked the Leader if, as recommended by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, local councillors and representatives of residents could participate in the Air Quality Summit for Horn Lane, particularly Stop Horn Lane Pollution. The Leader refused to accept this and insists that it will be an officers only meeting. This is very disappointing. Cllr Bell really has misjudged this one.
