New pool

I was just looking at how the new pool is coming on (via the article on the front page when I noticed the following comment:The steel frame is now in place and the concrete pool tanks are ready. Work will start in the next month on the floors and testing the swimming pools for leaks. This will involve filling the main pool with 675,000 litres of water and the learner pool with 23,000 litres of water.Does this mean that the combined 698,000 litres of water are then wasted, and the pool finished and then again filled with water? Given the focus on the planet, am I the only one that finds this a shocking waste? I'm sure there are other ways of testing a pool?Still not really sure I understand what was wrong with the old pool, and lovely historic building that enclosed it - but perhaps I need to move on?Carl

We were regular users of the much loved Acton pool, as members of Ealing Swimming club as well as the Allan winner Kung Fu Academy, one of the many courses housed in the building, so we were devastated when it was shut down.It was in need of a good dose TLC and freshening up but there were a few good years left in it. There were many tears shed on the last swim. We were told that there was some leaking in the foundation of the pool which would have cost a lot to fix and not a long term solution.Frankly we are so relieved that there will be a pool in Acton next year, as for a while we really thought there would be more luxury flats instead.Yes it is a waste of water but not as much as the resources that would be wasted if they discovered leaks further down the line.

I remember the last time they tiled the main pool, they had to do it again as it had been done so badly. I think it only cost about a million to do it again, must be a lot more now.

Esc swimming club is using Chiswick new pool and Gurnell and Janet Adegoki.We used to cycle down to Acton now we have to drive sadly.
