Jamie - the best thing to do is to put on a paper collar, and write a message on it to ask if the cat is a stray. Of course, most likely the collar will come off, but there is an outside chance that it will remain. A conventional collar, unless it an easy release one, can cause problems for the cat, particularly if it's an adventurous one that likes climbing trees, for example! You may just have a visitor that likes the feline cuisine you are offering!
