Fly tipping on the increase

We've noticed that fly-tipping in Acton is on the increase again.  Anyone else?  Friars Way on the corner with St Dunstan's Gardens has started up again as a hotspot, Eastbourne Ave by the Scout Hut and various other areas locally.I have a fair idea about the regular perpetrator for the St Dunstan's Gardens hotspot and intend to remedy that tonight, hopefully!  It's a rented house that's been emptied after the last tenants, quelle surprise!  Greedy landlords strike again.  Of course, the Council can't do anything unless you catch them red-handed and even when you do, as I did 6 years ago, they are loathe to prosecute even when I was happy to testify.

It seems the tree on the corner of Baldwin and Grafton has rubbish tip painted on it . Broken chest of drawers this week left . It's the change over of rented tenants .As house prices rise I see more going up for sale as landlords sell up to release capital OR rents increase and we get a better more responsible tenant . Can only be good to drive out those who think the streets are rubbish tips

Interesting thoughts, Peter.  I fear that, as house prices rise, greedy landlords may just squeeze more tenants in, hence increasing the fly-tipping potential.

Good point but I sense a change and move from the multiple occupancy dwelling to re instate the family house ... As rents rise the single beside becomes less economic than a higher quality accommodation attracting more added value rent . landlords will hold out to maximise the cross rail effect but there is a tipping point where the cheap bedsit land environment will become less value in an area that can command quality high rents due to easy travel access to the city ... At least we can hope so ... Things are already changing with a houses requiring modernisation being sold at crazy prices and a new breed moving in .

Unless I'm going totally mad, many years ago by East Acton Station the local council(LBHF), used to put a skip there at certain times for residents to dispose of large unwanted items.when you tot up what it costs to collect these illegally dumped items throughout the month, I wonder if if might be more cost effective to leave a skip at these sites. You could even have cctv on them to ensure commercial abuse isn't happening. I bet this would all still cost the councils a lot less than they are spending collecting this currently, as well as providing a useful service for local residents and helping to clear the streets up. Don't know how it would work in reality, but curious to know if anyone else is aware of other councils doing similar things at sites other than the local depot sites such as Bollo Lane.Carl

Putting skips out for residents often has the result of non-residents using them, ie, local businesses and others just passing by. Enforcement is the way forward.

Having just spent 9 months doing up a house , skips are not the answer.i probably paid for 50  of not my waste being dumped in my ship Why should I pay for the anti. Social Acton mobAnother reason to get rid of the anti social Acton residents How do we define them ?

I agree with you Angela, I have also noticed more and more flytipped furniture in Acton.Someone dumped a double bed mattress in our street. I put a 'Streetwatch Aware' sticker on it but when my husband passed by he said someone had removed the sticker!Anyway it has been reported to Streetwatchers.I think it is mostly rogue landlords who just throw out beds when they put new people in their property.The Council should make every effort to trace the culprits, after all one can't carry a double very far so it must surely be local?

Naming and shaming is always the way forward with such anti-social behaviour.But an enforcement team working with local residents to catch those responsible is expensive.The Labour Party of course don't want to upset potential voters perhaps.Pressure by local residents associations on the local Labour Councillors is needed to ensure enforcement is taking place.

I'd like to think that the Council is pro-active in contacting the colleges and universities with a view to promoting the facilities they provide for residents.In other towns and cities there is cooperation and liaison between these institutions and the Council to help students to recycle all the stuff that they will not be taking with them but have collected eg the furniture!  This can also be very useful to new students moving into an area.
