What a  foul up...Uxbridge Rd/Styne Rd

Temporary traffic lights, road dug up, tight right turn onto Uxbridge Rd.  All this for a stupid roundabout, grrr. How long will we have to put up with this stupidity, for something we didn't really want?  Will the roundabout really improve traffic flow and, will there be any benefit?

So insanity still exists within Ealing Council.  What they want, they get, what we want, we are ignored.  I dread to think what this bunch of failed Labourites have in store for us, if they get back in, next year...more poop and rip off, on the electorate!

The residents of Denehurst/Willcott and Hillcrest were 'consulted' because they recognised that we would be directly affected as our roads would be used as cut-through's even more than they already are. We said no, there was even a petition and the result.....

What were the other options offered?Something has to be done as the junction as it is is a ridiculous mess with congestion backing up as far as Horn lane.Also it is hard to feed into Uxbridge road from Gunnersbury lane because of current congestion. It is common to wait through 3or 4 light sequences before getting past.I am holding judgement on this as the 2 roundabouts that have been introduced at Acton Town and Noel Noel Road/Horn lane have vastly improved traffic flow in my opinion.( I use them both several times a week)I know this new one is a bigger junction but hopefully it will have the same effect. At the moment I avoid the area  because this junction is not fit for purpose.

I do not object to the roundabout per se, but the no left turn from Gunnersbury Lane will push cars off the main roads and onto the side roads. That stretch is always congested and the current set up doesn't work, but there were no alternatives offered.

The roundabout idea is fine and is all part of Boris Johnson's agenda of introducing them wherever possible to speed up traffic flows. I can't understand the reasoning behind the no left turn at Gunnersbury Lane though and even if it does speed up traffic on the main roads it will cause inconvenience for residents in the side streets. Incidentally, there is no point complaining to/about Ealing Council. This is all the work of Boris and TFL.

The really daft thing is doing these works at the same time as the back of the town hall is often closed for building works traffic. Acton feels impassible

A roundabout is probably a decent idea but a mini one similar to the one they built at the town hall is a recepie for disaster as people drive straight through it without slowing down. You wont be able to get on if you come from either side and accidents are bound to happen. The real culprit for the traffic misery however is that they widened  the pavements and removed a car lane - we've had constant traffic jams all the way from the railway bridge ever since. They didn't even make a prober cycling lane but we can walk 10 people side by side on each side of the road

Whilst the money for the scheme is coming from TfL, Ealing Council have designed it. The no left turn at Gunnersbury Lane will either be ignored, cause more rat running in side streets or increase congestion as vehicles drive to the new roundabout to do a U turn - or maybe a bit of all three.

Getting to and from Acton High Street was very difficult, even when turning off Horn Lane into Accacia and through the back streets.Coming home was even worse, Churchfield Road cars were bumper to bumper... goodness knows how residents will tolerate this madness until November!Maybe Acton High Street is best avoided for the forseeable future? The shopkeepers might end up losing money if this goes on until November.

In France they would have this job done within 2 weeks -  Via Overnight working - although a little noisy - it would speed things up, but of course that would cost more.But who agreed this contract? - the Highways Department needs to be shaken up and bought to book on why this work will take so long to complete.

The TfL website says:- 05/08/2013 to 22/11/2013, 09:30 to 15:30 High Street Junction With Steyne Road, Acton (W3)Highway Works: There will be temporary 3-way traffic signals in place for the first week of these works. For the remainder of the works the junction will operate as a temporary roundabout. So, we will get to see how the roundabout works whilst being built!To make matters worse in the evenings there is also this:-OLD OAK COMMON LANE/EAST ACTON LANE W3 - ROUTES 260: From 2000 Thursday 08th August until 0500 Monday 10th August, buses towards Golders Green will be diverted due to resurfacing of Old Oak Common Lane between East Acton Lane and A40 Western Avenue.Buses will be diverted as follows:Route 260 towards Golders Green: From East Acton Lane at the junction with Old Oak Common Lane, diverted ahead East Acton Lane, right The Vale, ahead High Street Acton, right Steyne Road, ahead Horn Lane to normal line of route.Route 272 towards Shepherds Bush: From Larden Road at the junction with The Vale, diverted left The Vale, ahead High Street Acton, right Steyne Road, ahead Horn Lane, right A40 Western Avenue, ahead A40 Western Avenue, left Old Oak Common Lane to normal line of route.That means other traffic will also be diverted along the High Street and up Horn Lane!

Where does it say it'll take 'til November?  I've seen signs which say it'll take 4 weeks.

Jean, yesterday's traffic was exacerbated by the gas leak at Hanger lane which brought the A40 and many surrounding roads to a standstill. I don't think it can all be blamed on the works. drivers were escaping the A40 and piling into Horn lane. It was Chaos. The whole area north of the Uxbridge road had stopped moving.

Sarah, The TfL website notice (as in my previous post) gives a November date, as do the illuminated 'dot matrix' signs along the Uxbridge Road. There is one near Ealing Common.We will have to wait and see just how long it does take.

Thanks for that Kim, we had no idea and couldn't believe the chaos and problems we had getting to and from Acton High Street.Horn Lane was much clearer today.

Seem traffic queues are less since the roundabout has been in operation.  Still some drivers confused about the change and lack of road markings.  Thoughts?

Will reserve judgement until schools go back, and no left turn comes into operation. Fingers crossed though or it will be a nightmare down our road.

Went through it on the bus this afternoon: no delays, but the road is in a dreadful mess and markings are not at all clear. Still a lot of confusion...

The Uxbridge Road is the responsibility of TFL and it is their scheme. Ealing manage the consultation, but it is TFL who have the final say on what is done.

Traffic seems to be flowing better at the moment, the test will be when the summer holidays are over, but it's promising.I've seen some of the Uxbridge road traffic flying straight over but that should stop as people get used to it and permanent signs are erected.

Due to a lack of clear road markings, it is a little unsettling when you are a cyclist right now but hey, I have never seen traffic flow so nicely down there in the last 18 years! Hope they eventually think of us cyclists again and finally start punishing the drivers who go into marked cyclist areas where there are cameras. The behaviour of many motorists in Acton is scandalous when it comes to cycle spots at traffic lights, for example. Go to Chiswick (yes, lol,), and the yummy mums have truly got the drivers tamed.Hope they create another roundabout at the corner of Steyne Rd/Horn Lane where it can be war between the (in the olden days) long queing downhill motorists on Horn Lane and shortcutters pushing in from the side. I this, I that - who cares about a few flattened cyclists using the bus lane...
