Great idea by Ealing Council to improve street littering

Absolutely genius!  I don't know why our Council and the previous one didn't think of it before!  It seems Ealing Council have come up with a bright new idea on how to improve the street littering/cleaning situation.   I'm terribly impressed.  The solution?  Let all the weeds in the guttering and along the paving stones grow so high and wild that one cannot SEE the littering underneath it!Fabulous!

Couldn't agree more.  Only someone with a brain cell above genius would come up with a foolproof solution such as this.  I look forward to my first supply of WEEDGROW, as supplied by Ealing Council. Happy growing.Sorry, spent to long on W4, picking up bad habits.

I have complained to the Council about the weed situation.  Tonight I went litter picking (you know it's my hobby) and I really couldn't see some of the hidden litter in amongst the weeds.  I've asked what the service provision is for weeding in Acton.

I must  confess I am an empty lager can collector and pick up the many left on the streets but they are now hidden amongst the overgrowth .As relatively new to the area is this normal or just this year that the weeds out number the cans ?

Looks like the only weeding provision is for the parks.  They were at it in Springfied Gdns last week.  I once saw someone going around Grafton with a weed-killer spray but, that was eons ago, long before Enterprise, struck us with their diligent efficiency.

Guess its get the spray gun out this weekend . Can I deduct the cost from my council tax bill ???

Like the idea.  They would probably re-band you to a higher band, just to fleece the cost of your deduction.  The Council would refer to it as Legalised Criminality.  You would think that with £100,000,000 spare cash in the coffers, they would do something constructive, like clean the streets.

In previous years, and Council leaderships, we've had our gutters and pavements sprayed with weedkiller.  I've never liked this but I also don't like the weeds!  I've not seen this happen with the current and hopefully temporary Council.  I complained about the same problem 2 months back and I then saw 2 Enterprise employees rake and hoe said weeds.  It took them ages, of course and, without weedkiller, it all grew back very quickly.I await to hear what the Council have to say and no, Peter, this hasn't been a problem previously.  I refuse to spray my own weedkiller as it not only costs a fortune, I don't want to be exposed to it too often.

Why not do the job yourself outside your own property.  Pull out the weeds as I do when they are small and throw them in the gutter - time taken 2 minutes.

Dee, these weeds aren't outside my own property - they are in the guttering all along most roads around my part of Acton.  As you know, I often take care of my own turf in various ways - this is beyond the call of duty.

I have already reported this to Streetwatchers, nothing has happened so far and the weeds are growing happily in the streets of Acton.Acton always seems to be forgotten by the Council and even more so since Enterprise was given the contract.

We did have a young man with the equipment to spray the weeds in the Goldsmith area some time ago wandering around -but he was so engaged with his mobile telephone that I doubt that he was doing his job as he should have been.  That's why we have so many weeds.  The contract was fulfilled - someone was sent out with the equipment, but they did not do the job properly.  Obviously supervision of the job was zero.This was reported to the Council at the time.
