William Hill flyers

There is no such thing as bad publicity, it is said but here goes anyway.  I've had FOUR of the same booklets/flyers put through our letterbox marked "no flyers, no junk mail".  FOUR.  Whoever they are paying to drop these cannot read and cannot do the maths.  Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, The 'No Junk mail ' sign does not work, probably cos they can't read English.

I pointed out to a flyer deliverer that my letterbox said 'No Junk Mail' and he said that they were instructed to do every letterbox regardless of stickers to the contrary.  So it's down to the company who employs them.It's such a ridiculous waste of paper!

We're selling our house at the moment.Dexters, an agent that we are NOT listed with, put a sign up on our house yesterday.When I complained about it they said it was 'a mistake'.Yeah... right.

That takes the biscuit!  Talk about opportunistic!  Of course, it may have been a genuine mistake.

I'm highly skeptical given past form but yes it could have been.I took great delight in removing it and delivering it back to them.I resisted the temptation to alter the sign with a few choice words.

Really tempted to alter Dexters TO (I) LET signs.  They have a habit of mistakes, like putting boards up just for advertising on property not for sale or to let.Why do estate agents keep sending out junk mail addressed to The Legal Owner.  Me thinks I will start saving it, then when I have enough, send it to the most prolific sender of said junk mail, along with the rubbish from Virgin.

James, that is an old dodge.  The estate agents tend to put them up on properties that are let to students, who don't care about such things.As it is on your property, I'd take it down, cut it in two and take it to the recycling depot.

Niki - nobody is gonna stop Virgin! They had my name at some point (somehow...), sent letter every 2 weeks that were swiftly sent back with the comment, 'junk mail , unsoliced, return to sender'. Didn't stop. After 5 years or so I rang them. They promised to stop the crap, but since then they come to 'The Householder'. Virgin's excuse? Someone else interested in their services might have bought the place... You cannot win until the government (or EU - I hear they are working on it - sweet bliss!) forces the crooks to do what is already a regulaation in most of Europe...

Virgin's insistence that my house has been split and that there is an 'A' has been going on for years.  It has definitely not been split for the last 25.  I have posted letters back with messages and rung them (and correspondence did stop for a while) but it has now started again.It is one of the reasons that I eventually dumped them as a service provider. Unfortunately I'm not sure a Dear Sir Richard letter will work any more as I don't think he has much to do with it now.I am also rather loath to ever use Viking again now as it took so long to get them to stop sending unsolicited stuff.

I get it all the time if I,m at home and hear them putting their rubbish through my door I go after them and hand it back. Alternatively post it back to them with no stamp on the envelope they will have to pay and collect it from sorting office. Estate agents are the worst I call them up when I get a flyer through the door and politely advise them that I used to be an agent myself and if I was to sell or rent my property would not use their services. RSK took a few calls but they seem to have stopped putting their stuff through my door.

Over the years I have sent masses of stuff back unstamped with "Unsolicited Post - Return to Sender" scrawled across it.I hate the habit some leaflet distributors have of putting a pamphlet half way through a door which I feel then may give an indication of whether someone is in or not.  I am forever pushing these right through neighbours' doors.  I've phoned these people up to complain.I would hate to lose all flyers for local events though.  I think it is important to not shut oneself inside a personal bubble and to be a part of the local community.

When I put the No Junk mail sign on my letterbox it made no difference to junk mail but the only think that stopped was the Ealing gazette which is not junk and I miss.

It will not stop the door to door fly posters being put through your letter box but using http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ to register not wanting junk mail has stopped my receiving the loads of junk mail I used to suffer. There is a similar system for unwanted phone calls which also seems to work well.Sadly where you are a registered customer with a supplier (BT being my own hated example) you get endless mails about their broadband which simply ensures I will likely never use!On estate agents I saw while walking the dog the other morning two suited estate agent types (fear I did not find out who they were representing) dropping it seems the now standard "Legal Owner" letter into houses on a street (probably offering the free valuation ploy they currently use). One lady came steaming out shouting she had a no junk mail label on her house and they simply told her to recycle the letter and walked on!

I hope she ripped up the flyer so it could not be reused.
