Big clean up at Asda Park Royal

I've been asked to pass this message on. I will be at the store myself with friends at 1.00 on 13th September for one hour. Anyone available to join me should pm me or just turn up at that time.CUSTOMERS URGED TO JOIN THE 'A-TEAM' FOR BIG TIDY UPColleagues from Asda Park Royal are asking charities/customers to join their very own A-team and help the local environment, after choosing Park Royal's industrial estate for their 'Big Litter Pick' clean-up in September. The store recently asked the community to nominate areas in need of attention as part of the company's national "Big Litter Pick" week with the aim that to make a difference in its local community by cleaning up its green spaces to provide a cleaner, safer environment for local families. Asda Park Royal's 'Big Litter Pick' at the industrial estate will take place between on 10:00- 17:00, September 13th and members of the community wishing to take part should contact the store's Community Life Champion colleague, Donna, in person at the store All the necessary tools for the 'litter-lashing' will be provided by Asda Park Royal, including high-visibility vests, gloves, bin liners and litter pickers. Donna said: "We'd like to say a big thanks to everyone who nominated and we hope we can get the same level of support from the community when we begin our Big Litter Pick."We think it's important to look after the area in which we live and w o3rk and make it an attractive place to be a part of. Many hands make light work and with the support of customers and the wider community we make a real difference in just a week."

What is the Council doing? Surely that should be their job!Mind you things have deteriorated so much since Enterptise took over that I have been out in our street litterpicking!

Yes, the council should be doing this but it is a great idea - community spirit and all that. Perhaps Morrisons in Acton High Street could do something similar, if a suitable area could be identified for picking?

Can I suggest that ASDA, with all their millions of profits, donate some of those monies to doing the job themselves.  They have never ever kept the green areas on their own land clean, and are you saying that their customers/local residents should be gathered up to do the job for them.Is this a joke?

As I understand this, it is an ASDA funded project but is asking for additional volunteers on the day. I think it is an excellent opportunity to talk to ASDA about other community projects where they might be able to help. I have just heard that Angie Bray, the local MP will also be there, marigolds at the ready. I will be contacting the various Acton residents' associations and the community police reps. as well, so it should be a merry crowd. Do give it even half an hour if you can spare the time. Actions speak louder and all that. Park Royal is Acton too.

Is this a joke?"It is stretching the imagination just a bit to suggest that Walmart - one of the biggest companies in the world - is going to listen to calls from a few people on a tiny local community website to donate profits to something like local litter-picking. This is a global business, not a charity.Much better for local people to get involved on the day and try to influence the Asda store manager and other Asda staff to give feedback to their bosses on the popularity of this move by the company.This might encourage Asda to grow this initiative locally and nationally and donate more resources/funds it in future years.If Angie Bray MP is there at might get a little press coverage, perhaps even on this site, which might encourage the corporate social responsibility bods at Asda to do more.

I quite agree Tom. Well said! But, as I think the message says, ASDA is donating some funding to the project. Staff time, equipment etc. The Corporate Responsibility people are looking for co operation with the local community, an approach which is shared by most similar departments in UK organisations in my experience. I am keen that our community is seen to take part in this project with an eye to future matched funding applications for other ventures. R

Gentle reminder to all you gentle people that the great clean up is tomorrow from 10.00 - 17.00 starting in the car park as Park Royal.I will be there at 1.00 pm myself if anyone prefers to be with me. I am likely to be going for a cup of tea afterwards.Angie Bray local MP plus team will also be attending. Why not come along for a little while and see what is going on. If you have a charity in mind that could do with some funding from Walmart, now might be a good time to get to know the Corporate Responsibility people. Hmmmm?

Maire your post on the 11th said don't forget the litter pick tomorrow ie the 12th, hence the confusion. Thanks for clarifying that it is indeed Friday 13th.
