Acton parakeets todat.

Busy in the loft today, a parakeet arrived. Would it be worth stopping what I was doing, to climb down, find the camera, and climb back up again?  Surely he'd have flown away . . . ----------------------------------------------He was still there.  Then his mates turned up ! !  ----------------------------------------------Carry on,  . . . . . don't mind me ! ! !----------------------------------------------And then they were gone. (Not a great pic on its own, but seems to complete the set. I amost deleted it)

Very pretty and lovely shots.But don't be fooled by their lovely green colour.I have just witnessed a flock of about 100 chase away a heron from Acton park. They cause immense damage to trees. In the near future we will be seeing them as no better than the common rock pigeon.

I had three doing formation flying round the garden a few days ago. Wonder if they were the same trio. Wonder if they have an agent.

Wonder if they have an agent.  "Anyone can see what they're up to.Flap around, sit, and let you take pics.  Soon they'll be asking for money.------------------------------------------------Seriously though, we haven't had parakeets on the aerial for at least five years. They used to arrive in the morning, and sit up there and fight, making a horrendous noise.  Even worse back then cos we couldn't actually see them, only hear them.

"I have just witnessed a flock of about 100 chase away a heron from Acton park."Is it Acton Park where they go to roost each evening?  I live in Chiswick and see them fly over us in groups each evening from the general direction of Chiswick House Gardens heading north or north-east.

Pretty but pests .. And they drive out local indigenous species.Some years ago there was research going on to find a good contraceptive for them -but I don't know how far it got.

yes, the Heron was in Acton park. They almost brought him down. And yes they do drive out native species. How much longer till they drive out the woodpeckers from Acton park.The damage they do to the trees is clear to see with a 2 inch thick carpet of tree waste at their base. They are particularly fond of one of the trees near the circular bed in the middle of the park.

Their loud squawking simply frightens the other birds off when they arrive at a tree to feed.  There's obviously more than enough food to sustain them, I've yet to see a parakeet on the ground, picking up scraps. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Google :- Parakeets  Himalayas  UK

The parakeets are a serious danger to native birds. I remember being at school and being told that at the turn of the century we'd have flocks of parrots flying around - yeah right, I thought.The RSPB were warned about this too in the 80s/90s and warned that it would be a problem for our native birds but they too said yeah right, whatever.It's a case of too little, too late; where there are parakeets, there won't be many native birds.  Been to Richmond Park lately?
