Video Cassettes

Is there anyone out there who still uses video?I have an awful lot of new and slightly used cassettes.Also an unused video recorder/player.

They were still taking them at Charing Cross on my last visit.Freecycle is a really good idea as it is where people who are looking for something in particular can post and go - as is this website of course!Also try any group for the elderly as it can be much harder for them to learn new technology - especially those who have lost their sight - and yes people with very little or no sight do still want to watch films and television as well as listen to the radio.

Gosh. That takes me back to the late 70s when I rented (redifusion?) my first VCR . Great big chunky clunky thing. Came with a prerecorded tape with Cliff Michelmore demonstrating how to use it. I think there were only a couple of tapes you could rent (convoy?) and you certainly couldn't buy tapes outright. Disney said their cartoon classic would never be released on tape (that changed). But the great thing was being able to time shift a programme that normally you'd want to stay home for. I've given all my tapes away to charity shops

Late 70s? We got our first VCR in 1981: it cost £400+ and was so heavy it needed two people to lift it. It would record up to three days in advance. And it was a Betamax.

Yes, it was 1978..one of the first things we taped was Bette Midler on Brucies Big Night.She did a couple of numbers then did the interview sprawled out on the stage.Betamax was considered superior but as VHS machines were available to rent, they dominated the UK market.
