Distilled water is evaporated by heating, leaving the impurities behind, and then condensed in a clean container.Most water sold as "distilled" is now de-ionised by passing it through a resin-based filter to remove chemicals that might damage a battery or leave lime deposits when boiled off, it is then free of most chemicals although it might not be absolutely pure water.
