Waste not, want not!

Dunnu how many times I could have shot a similar picture as did a lot of dump trips over the summer due to fencing work and the likes. It's always the dame suy sitting on a chair, only the pink para wasn't there at first. Mind you, they have an interesting collection of discarded features at the Acton damp - always cheers me up :D

They used to have a sort of display there of artefacts that had been dumped.

Still do - abs great! What I do dislike is that they cannot give any discarded items to people who visit the dump. I fully understand that there are issues with certain items like electrical/electronic goods, but I have seen piles of books on several occasions, begging for one or more of them, but it's a no-no...

Once you've handed it over - it's not yours any more.  The Council has contracted out the running of this.I think it is better to find another home for something before it gets taken to the "dump".It has a wonderful title "Reuse & Recycling Centre" but I doubt if much gets reused for its initial purpose in life which is what is most important.  I've seen faces fall as something that was just not wanted any more was presented and consigned to the crusher.  Reusing or recycling just for  components is an end of life process.Repair where you can (the internet has instruction manuals and spare parts and videos on how to do this online).Use Freecycle to give away all sorts of things things that you don't want that still have useful life in them (modern replacements are often of poorer quality) eg furniture. (Has to be collected.) Also to register what you are looking for.There are several outfits that collect furniture - and some collect electrical items too.Collecting locally there's British Heart Foundation; William Wilberforce Trust, Furnish; Trinity Homeless Projects; Acton Recycling.So quite a lot to try for the large stuff and plenty of charity shops for the small stuff.There are also yards for second hand building materials and fixtures.
