Horn Lane Pollution HIGHest in London (as usual) @ Red SIX

Whilst the heavily congested Hanger Lane Gyratory and Western Avenue only register Green two. Only one other site in London @ Orange 5 and the rest of London a sea of 1-2-3 Greens.Wonder when The Authorities will DO something??? Perhaps in another 9 years when they have collected sufficient data to "prove" there IS a problem??!! One could not possibly comment!And Julian Bell & Bassam Mahfouz had bugger all to do with it, both did NOTHING, and neither did any of the SIX Ward Councillors (East Acton & Acton Central), to achieve this.Angie Bray has been instrumental as has assistance from Phil Taylor and Vlod Barchuk. "I see Gowing & Pursey are on the move - are they the worst offenders?"Nobody can say for sure but pollution readings (which are taken every 15 minutes, night and day) correlate quite closely with their operating hours. We'll know in 2014.Since Gowing and Pursey had the amount of tonnage they can process at the site halved a couple of years ago, there's been a question mark over its commercial viability. If they're moving to new premises with a fully enclosed shed for operations that's good news for everyone; waste transfer operations undertaken in fully enclosed facilities do not show PM10 reading anywhere near those of Horn Lane. Now the Council have a challenge. They have decided to keep this site designated for waste transfer in their planning policy, although their original plans were to identify it a having potential for residential development. As long as this remains so, there's a risk someone else will move in and use the site for the same purpose.

Precisely.Never underestimate the self serving Environment Agency's  ability to be ignorant, ineffective and incompetent - they are highly likely to simply Approve an Operating Licence to A N Other Waste Transfer Company.And we'll be back to square one.Not that The EA gives a toss.

Absolutely Lorna - and so lovely and close to crossrail for waitrose or whoever! Though actually I am sure Waitrose would prefer Churchfield Road.Isn't the best news the bit about the license being handed back to the council. Or am I (as usual) naively optimistic?

Yep, naively optimistic.G & P have to hand their Licence back because it's in their own, specific name, and it is handed back to The Environment Agency (who are supposed to police them), not The Council.And, as I have said, there is a very good chance that a smaller operation Waste Transfer Company will waltz onto the site, with the EA issuing a new Operator's Licence. With their blessing.Grrrrrrrr.
