Compulsory Purchase

Has anyone ever had their flat compulsory purchased by the Council.  If so, what was your experience, did the Council pay a fair price for your property etc.

The council will give you a "market value" of your property but that does not mean to say its the true value, it could be more!!  You have the right (as far as i am aware) to get your own valuer in to act on your behalf.

The market value should be the true value. If you think it is not, get professional advice and be willing to contest the price given. People often however overestimate the value of their home if a major development is about to affect it.

You can of course check out the value of your property by going to Nethouseprice or Zoopla for a ball parc figure but i would get advice from a chartered surveyor who deals with this work.  I know Bollo Court was offered market value figure from the council  and the surveyor/valuer who acted on their behalf got the figure increased on at least 3 flats there. Seek advice.

I looked into this about 6 years ago and part of their 'deal' was that I had to replace all the windows in the property and do other building repairs which they valued at £50,000 before I could buy it!. so its ok to rent in despair but not to buy!

yes I already bought the flat, nothing came up in the searches but since moving in it has been confirmed that the property is under a compulsory purchase order.  I just worry what the outcome will be at the end as obviously I don't want to be out of pocket, I had to spend quite a lot on the property just to make it liveable, however I have some more years yet until I will have to leave.  Thanks for your replies.
