Warning - Morriions car park CCTV

Just had a Parking Charge Notice from a compan called ParkingEye for 2over staying" in Morrisons last month. As a regular customer both in the store as well as the cafe, I am NOT a happy Customer!Emailed Customer Service (Morrisons) standrad reply asking for evidence of being a "regular" customer. Forward to them but no reply since.Please be aware ( and warned)of this new parking arrangement at Morrisons!Keep your recipts and proof of being a Customer at all times and don't spend more than 2 hours in their car park or you could end up paying up to £85 to the "Parking Pirates" :-(.

Suggest you don't pay. Consult one of the parking oracles like Richard Jennings. Apparently fines issued by private companies are illegal. Or I believe so anyway. Hopefully someone will post on here with chapter and verse.

Jim,You can safely ignore this so-called PCN.  It is a try on.  The law makes it unenforceable.  See Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfair_Terms_in_Consumer_Contracts_Regulations_1999On the other hand council or TfL PCNs are very enforceable so should not be ignored.

Do nothing do not reply to any letters. You will receive two more letters each looking very official.Take no notice they have never taken anyone to court.They are frighten of losing and being shown that they have no power to enforce this charge.There was a Watchdog program about this try youtube.I was issued with a notice in a Aldi car park so I became a well informed on this.They pray on peoples fear.Remember do not reply to any letters.Ive been there and done it.

John is right - I too have been there and done that. Just ignore every communication and they will stop.Those letters have no status in law and will not be enforced by the courts.More than that, the company won't take you to court because the business model depends on there not actually being a judgment - which they know would go against them.There are quite a lot of internet sites with advice correspondence on this  check some out (but don't subscribe!)

Thank you very much for all the useful advice and information!However, many users of Morrison will be feeling intermediated and worried sick about this type of letters and pay up. M partner is one of them and paid up just before midnight. I am chasing up Morrison to get some redress on this. As Morrison is well aware of this type of Car Park Pirates and yet they have contracted these types of company to be their “Enforcer”.  Is that the sort of company that acres about their Customers?

There has been a 2 hour limit for a few years now, which though annoying does help to keep the car park having free spaces.

I had the same thing - a ticket for overstaying by 20 minutes. Was going to write furious letters etc and show bank statements to prove how much I spend in Morrisons. In the end I went into Morrisons with my receipt for the day in question (imagine you could show bank statement instead) and asked to speak to the manager who was very pleasant and said he would wave the tickets as it is my first 'offence'! Told me that if I ever knew I needed to stay more than 2 hours then to let a member of staff know and they would stop the ticket being issued in the first place.....

Telling customer services definitely works. Was parked close to one of the concrete posts (passenger door), and some twat parked right next to me so that I could not open the other door either and, thus, had to abandon the car. Told them that I could not come back for about 6 hours because of work commitments - no problem.

Useul comments and advice, but I don't usually use my card unless it is more than £20 and also don't keep the cafe's receipts either. The recipt I had was for a larger purchase after the date of offence.

As the so-called "Parking Fines" are not imposed for breach of any Road Traffic legislation on the public roads, they can be at best only claims for damages.Is Morrisons suggesting that because, whilst having a meal in their café and then doing their shopping, someone inadvertently overstayed by 15 or 20 minutes, they have for instance caused delivery vehicles to be turned away or caused traffic problems, etc (and often the car-park may be half empty at night)  - if not, what damages are they claiming?
