Burglary

Just to let the forum know - we live on Stuart Road and a neighbour has had her door opened at about 5am- 6am-ish, the car keys taken and then the car stolen. We have seen a few suspect people saying they are sheltering from the rain in people's doorways.

Did you dial 999 when you saw unknown people in doorways?How was the door opened-did they snap the lock insert? It is the now standard method unless you have snap resistant or snap-safe inserts.

Perhaps 101 might be best if you are unsure, and let the operator decide, but on the other hand there may be a mobile unit in the area that could do a quick check.

I once had my car stolen from outside my front door by a gang using a fishing rod to hook keys through the letter box. They bacame quite well known and all got a prison sentence eventually. Made me develop a habit of keeping keys somewhere other than the hall. A hook inside a cupboard. A tin or box on a shelf.  The pocket of a coat Anything but the hall table.

Banhams in Kensington High Street sell an anti-burglar inner letter box cover which will revent such happenings.They are not expensive and easy to fit.
