Pure Gym Noise - Part 2

As my original post was removed , let's try again. The newly opened gym below the new flats is affecting the residents above with the loud music. Especially during the 6:30am class!Have tried the council and the gym but to little effect. Anyone have any further advice?

When you say you've tried the council with little effect, I'd like to know a bit more. Noise is the most frequent cause of complaints to Councils and they all have effective systems to deal with nuisance caused by noise. If you have had no response from the relevant teams, one of your local Councilors could take up your case as a councilor's query can raise the game. Not sure where in Acton this gym is, but all the Councilors names and contact info are on the website.

You could also try contacting the planning department.As it was they who agreed the planning application and will know of any soundproofing arrangements that the developer put in place - which should have been taken into account when they agreed the planning application.

Perhaps I was a little unfair towards the council. I have filled a complaint last week with them and was given a reference number along with being told that:* I would be sent a diary to keep track of the noise* They would send the gym a letter* Someone would investigate the issue* It would take around a month before a decision is madeI have yet to receive the diary but in the mean time the noise has changed very little (i.e. it is still loud during classes). So either I put up with a lack of sleep for a month and then find out nothing has been done or I actively try to pursue whatever is possible.Thank you for your suggestion, I will stay in touch with the Council and if that doesn't work I will try contacting a local councilor.

Ray,do you have a residents association in the block of flats.You are probably not the only one to have to put up with the noise and as a group you probably have a louder voice to make a case.

One thing you can do that doesn't cost the word is to get a petition out, putting a letter through the letterbox of those on the lower floors (printed/photocpied, who cares), asking those concerned to contact you by phone/sms or by signing the form. Like Kim said, together you are much stronger, and chances your complaints will be listened to double if you kick up a really big fuss. Been there, done this before ;)

And get everyone's email addresses at the same time so you can communicate more easily.Maire - I think this is the new development where the bus station was - next to North China.By the way, Laurence at North China was really apprehensive about the development - it may be worth seeing if he's affected too.
