The replies so far seem to ignore the areas around Acton Town tube station, the most convenient mode of transport with Piccadilly and District line trains straight into the centre of London (Covent Garden in 30 minutes) and out to Heathrow. The E3 bus route goes past the station to take you into Chiswick or up to Acton High StreetThere are four distinct areas within 10 minutes walk, in no particular order:Gunnersbury Park Triangle Estate based around The Ridgeway, Park Road and Princes Avenue amongst others, very close to Gunnersbury Park with local shops on Gunnersbury Lane including a Sainsbury’s Local. A small private estate of lovely 3 bedroom terraced houses (some converted into flats) with a great Sport & Social club in the centre hosting a bar and sports including tennis, bowls, karate, keep fit, snooker. A fairly quiet area that allegedly has a crime rate lower than Chiswick.Mill Hill Estate comprising Mill Hill Road, Avenue Road, Avenue Gardens, Avenue Crescent and Heathfield Road, an area of imposing Victorian and Edwardian houses (think Bedford Park), some of which have been converted into flats, very quiet with little traffic especially Avenue Gardens/Crescent and Heathfield Road and low crime rates. Acton Town and Gunnersbury Park are within 10 minutes walk as is Acton High Street with it’s array of outstanding restaurants, transport links to Ealing and Shepherds Bush and beyond, a number of hostelries, Morrison’s and independents of Churchfield Road.The trio of roads very close to Acton High Street off of Gunnersbury Lane that include Whitehall Gardens, King Edwards Gardens, Hillcrest road and Willcott Road; another Victorian/Edwardian estate, some houses converted into flats, a little busier as it’s much closer to the high street and everything on offer there, but again a great place to live.Then last of all we have the Ealing Part of this bit of Acton, that comprises Lillian Avenue, Gunnersbury Gardens, Gunnersbury Crescent and Carbery Avenue, again very close to the tube and the park with very low crime rates. Like the other areas mentioned an area of Victorian/Edwardian as well as inter/post war properties with some purpose built flats and house conversions.I would suggest you take a trip to Acton Town tube station and check theses areas out, you shall be surprised what you find, it’s not grim here and contrary to urban myth, is a very safe place to live and travel from/to, the South Acton Estate a common reason given to avoid Acton is nowhere near as bad as its made out to be and will be completely redeveloped over the next few years (some block have already been demolished and replaced).Acton has an abundance of historic local attractions, great transport links (much better than Chiswick), better access to other local areas such as Ealing, Shepherds Bush (Westfields), Hammersmith, tennis clubs, football clubs, rugby clubs, cricket clubs, sports centres, sports and social clubs, gyms and shops. Lest I forget, we also have some of the best restaurants around currently, for Chinese there is the North China, for Thai we have Thai Nice and Pinto, for Indian we have Bombay Bistro and The Taj, some great pubs along the High Street including the Red Lion and Pineapple (Wetherspoons) the newly opened Aeronaut (with circus displays), the George & Dragon, and also within walking distance the ,more Bohemian are of Churchfiled Road with some great cafes, independent shops, pubs etc..All in all, what’s not to like about this part of Acton, everything you could want or need within a 15 minute walk with the ability to get anywhere by public transport very easily, at a price that is still fairly affordable. Get your map out and explore.
