New QPR Stadium next to Wormwood Scrubs

This should scare away more than 100 different species of birds which are currently found at Wormwood Scrubs - one of the last wild open spaces in Greater London. One of the people behind the scheme said:"We are talking to a number of world-class architects to design iconic tall buildings akin to New York, the Far East and London’s finest, as well as improving and incorporating the waterside environment of the Grand Union Canal."Makes the Oaks look like rather small fry. At least there are only pigeons to frighten away on Churchfield Road.

This is horrendous. When London looses all it's green public space in the name of progress and regeneration It will be un-liveable. The only people to benefit from this is the foreign investors. The local population stands to loose a  real treasure. Wormwood scrubs is not just a sanctuary for birds it is much used and loved by a huge range of people.Where do I sign the petition.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Wormwood Scrubs will be lost.  It's a proposal for regenerating the large area north of the Great Western main line and the future Crossrail/HS2 station which is currently an industrial site.The birds manage to ignore 125 mph diesel trains right next to the Scrubs, so I doubt if a stadium further north will bother them much.

The Scrubs can't be touched. It's protected by the 1879 Act........Too long to post on here.

I will miss going down to Loftus Road. Least with a 40,000 stadium it will be easier to get tickets if we get back into the premiership.

Isn't there a potential land grab on the cards on the northern boundary of the Scrubs ? It appears that the skyscraper city involves a  HS2/Paddington interchange station with the Overground track to Willesden Junction from Clapham. This would involve rerouting the Overground track and maybe taking a bit of land to do it ?

Great for the area in the long term - but i can't imagine what this will do to traffic around Harlesden.It gets really congested around there at peak times as it is.Hopefully the plans will include some sort of provision for moving extra traffic.Sadly i can't see how they could do it without building a flyover or knocking existing stuff down.

My understanding is the new stadium will be up near Willesden Junction station, so north of the canal and well away for the Scrubs. The road traffic possibilities has to be a real concern to us in Brent, and I doubt Savoy Circus and gypsy Corner will be improved either.The mention of a land take from Wormwood Scrubs for a rail viaduct is a real concern and I would not blithely accept that the 1879 Act will protect this metropolitan open space from encroachment. It did not stop the building of the Old Oak Community Centre on the Scrubs, after all, however worthy. There is also a prposal for a line of buildings along the entire northern side of the scrubs on the railway land there, to maximise the over-development of the overall site, which is actually enormous and not tiny, when you consider it is all land south of the Paddington mainline down to the Scrubs fence and all north all the way up to Wormwood Scrubs station and the Euston mainline. This will be a redevelopment on the scale of Docklands. Join Friends of Wormwood scrubs if you are concerned about either encroachment onto the Scrubs or overtowering of it by excessive adjacent building. You do not have to live bang next to the Scrubs to do so.

If The development is of the scale of Docklands we will have huge towers overlooking us.As well as loosing a substantial strip of the scrubs there is also the likelyhood of the remains being landscaped and manicured, with a token patch of rough scrubs retained to keep the bird watchers quiet.If you haven't been to scrubs make it a destination for a Christmas walk, it really is beautiful, to understand why it is worth saving.I also worry that if developers are able to grab bits of our green spaces no park will be safe from them.

There was a suggestion of a new road link between the A406 North Circular and the Willesden Junction area, but it might not really help traffic from the A40 Western Avenue and Westway unless it is linked on. It might then be a viable bypass for Hanger Lane Gyratory. It might even happen before we run out of fuel.
