Acton Muslim History Walk Sat 1st Feb 2014

Unveiled Acton's famous female resident who travelled to the Muslim countries in the 1700s and how did she find the Muslim women to be ?  Who was the famous Muslim in Acton in the early 1900s who's work went worldwide and is still used by Muslims till this day, Discover the first Muslim prayers that took place in the 1940s Acton, unconnected to the present three Mosques!  How were Muslims portrayed in the past, be surprised! Pandering to the muslims again are we? This town along the rest of the country think more about Islam than any other religion. Sorry, but I'm fed up with it and it has to be said, and I'm not afraid to say it.Rant continues.

Who is pandering to anything? Mr Tailor - who, from his earlier posts, is associated with a local Mosque - is publicizing a service offered to the general public...who can take up the offer or not as they choose.But what's wrong with that? Other faiths could do it too , if they wanted. Why not. Though a guide to Jewish Acton wouldn't even amount to a stroll....

This isn't pandering to anyone. I think Mr.Tailor's history of the Muslims in Acton is interesting. And I for one will make an effort to go.Sara, I think the influence of the Jewish people in Acton might prove pleasantly surprising; I mean who would doubt the good influence of say the Japanese in Acton/Ealing over the last few decades? And other religions too. Btw, did you know that a young Ho Chi Minh was once a resident in Ealing?

I am going to be at work that day Sara and will be  paying tax and ni so that people like that terror suspect can live on state benefits and not even consider going to  work. I have no doubt the subject will be ignored anyway or at best brushed over.

Is there evidence Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed was on benefits? I would have thought that claiming them quite tricky to combine with being in hiding. The newspaper reports I have read, don't say he was/is... I would think they might.    And one can always ask questions of tour guides.My two favourite guided tours recently have been into the roof space at Beverley Minster - up 133 steps but who's counting?And the new Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Both guides were more than happy to try and answer all our questions - some of which, in the latter case, were quite uncomfortable

Why am I not surprised by some of hese responses? Yawn!  I usually count how many posts there will be before we get "my taxes" or "terrorists". I'm rarely disappointed.

How can a simple invitation for an - Acton History walk - be turned into an anti-Muslim rant.It's just a walk. A simple, harmless walk with some info that you might not know about Acton history. Just a walk.

My 'rant' if you can be bothered to read it properly is aimed at terrorist suspects and the institutions which give them sanctuary and people who chose not to work and who live on benefits on my and presumably your expense.

Have just gone through the comments today after posting. The walk is this Saturday 1st Feb 2014.Annoor Centre  is mentioned and the one who got away! And Dee if i'm not mistaken but your question was answered the first time. But will say "NO" it is not salafi run. The centre is a public place and all people are welcome here as they have been coming. Everyone also has my contact details. Sara would be interested to hear about the Jewish history of Acton even though I know you have said it would not amount to a walk but whatever it is would be nice to know. I had heard that there was a synagogue previously on the road where Acton Mosque is, Oldham Terrace, are you able to shed any light on this?

A tailor,I am not aware of there being a synagogue in Oldham Terrace - there was a school where the mosque is now. There is no mention of it in any of the historical information I have available. If you find out there was, i would be interested to know where it was.Amanda (Acton History Group)
