FWIW i emailed Tom Webster at the council last week about the mayhem this round about was causing, before this new wave. It took me an hour to get from Askew Rd to Willcott Rd this evening, a journey that normally takes 10 mins tops,and that involved turning off behind the swimming pool coming out by Acton town station and the cutting through carberry ave way to Ealing common and coming from thr 'wrong' end. Total nightmare.I got this reply: Dear Milena Vincic,Thank you for writing in. I last observed the operation of the junction on Thursday evening and there were long queues on both Steyne Road and Acton High Street, although there were particularly high levels of traffic due to the tube strikes.The decision to proceed with the roundabout was based on detailed modelling by my colleagues in the Transport planning service, which was audited by TfL. This modelling indicated that the proposals would significantly reduce queuing and delay compared to the previous signal junction. There are however a few things that we are still resolving that should improve the movement of vehicles through the junction.- The roundabout is still not finished and we plan to resurface the roundabout weather permitting between the 16th and the 21st of February. I do apologise that we have had to delay the resurfacing due to earlier poor weather. The finished carriageway surface and road markings should assist the movement of vehicles through the junction and make it clear where people can and cannot park.- People are generally not using the inside lane on Steyne Road despite the bus lane being suspended and this reduces capacity of the junction. Use should improve after resurfacing makes it clearer people can use the inside lane to turn left.- We believe there are delays caused by the timings of the signals for the nearby pedestrian crossings on Steyne Road and the High Street and we are working with TfL (who operate the signals) to improve this.Kind RegardsTom Webster Senior Engineer
