Sub-letting a Council Property is now Illegal - Key Amnesty

As per usual, you have to ask why wasn't it always illegal? (unlawful?)Again, as per usual, that would be far too much common sense.

I suppose there was a time when it didn't seem necessary to spell out that no decent person would behave like this.

It depends what you mean by sub letting. I live in a Housing Assoc place and we can sublet our flats for up to 12 months. I know one of my neighbours did this as he had a 12 month placement in China. He was able to help out a friend and knew that the flat would be available for him when he returned.

A friend of mine bought their council property.  She lived there for many years until meeting her partner and moved out of the borough so they could live together.  They were together for at least 10 years.  The council actually rented the flat off her.  The flat is now sold.In a scenario where someone leaves their rented council property to live with a partner, if/when the relatioship ends, they are instantly homeless.    Surely not all those sub-letting are purely out to rip off the council. This amnesty is an ideal opportunity to reclaim some council properties not yet sold off.I wonder if the money the council save and collect from fines, will go towards building new social housing?

Of course not..... like the Road Fund licence money is not spent on the roads.Political priorities change according to voters whims and wishes.........don't forget that.

and Hounslow have come under attack for not turning around their empty housing fast enough.  There was a house empty for two years...
