Asbestos at Acton Post Office

Popped into Acton Post Office and noticed a large sign about asbestos and several ceiling tiles removed.Does anyone know how long this work has been going on for? Although I know asbestos has to be disturbed for it to be a health risk. It still didn't seem right to me for there to be no covering.

Well, I always thought using that post office was damaging to my health, but that was usually down to having to wait in an endless queue for about 3 days, not because the ceiling was deadly!Yet another reason not to go there...back to using the one in Ealing Common or the one near my workplace in South London then!

Have you seen what they have done to the Chiswick one?I know it was ghastly and a candidate for Sheila Hancock to consign to Room 101, now it is a really cheapo convenience store with a few PO counters tucked away inside....So be careful what you wish for

Likewise, in Ealing the PO was shut down and moved into the WH Smith.

Had to go to the post office yesterday.  Asbestos fears hadn't put off the dozen or so people in the queue.  It's had a re-fit inside, which while it looks nice, didn't seem to be speed things up.

Around the time everyone thought The Oaks was about to be developed into the next Westfield,  I posted a thread suggesting the Oaks development could provide some space for the Post Office to relocate. The Post Office building itself looks pretty dated and shabby.  If converted with an updated fascia, the foot fall on the mount might even attract some useful shops.Even as it is, the building provides protection for 'footfallers' caught in the rain. Rainy days would be good for business.  Any town-planner vacancies?
