Smart TV

We're thinking about getting a smart tv for the bedroom - we tend to watch catch up stuff and netflix so it should be fine in theory, and it don't want to get an aerial installed. Has anyone got any experience with them?

Hey Andy. I've always only ever used Sony TVs, they've always delivered and I have never had a single problem with any of them. Most of them were bought from Richer Sounds and were "last year's hot thing" rather than this years. Go for the best you can afford and then set it up properly - your eyes will thank you for it. My 2 cents worth.

Have you looked at getting a Now TV box? It (apparently) turns a TV into a smart TV..no contract...

I'm surprised by how many 'smart' TVs need a cable to connect to your internet rather than doing so wirelessly. There are a few wireless ones about so it's worth checking before you buy.If, like me, your modem is downstairs then a bedroom TV that needs a cable is a non-starter.

I've always found that watching HD really needs a cable as most wifi ends up being glitchy. I found Powerline a great way of getting the internet over power cables (and you'll have them near the TV because you need to plug it in). The rules for Powerline are: never mix and match brands, never plug them into extension leads and they'll usually give you much better connection than wireless (unless your house wiring is really not up to code). I get full internet speed all over the house via this method and it works well for me (but as ever, your mileage may vary...)
