Hanson Cement Batching Plant - Planning Permission Granted.

It was very close, the Chair decided by casting in Favour of granting.Abdullah Gulaid & Dan Crawford (both LAB - Acton Central) spoke well, supporting Against granting.Two Labour Councillor Committee Members also voted Against granting.Kate Crawford (LAB - East Acton) voted For granting.Eileen Harris (CON) also voted For granting.The rest of the Conservatives voted Against.Being somewhat of a specialist on the subject I was disappointed that many Members of Planning Committee were not as well informed as they should be when making these so important decisions. There is a tendency (not unreasonable I suppose) to take the Planning Officer's Report as "Gospel". I think Ealing Planning Reports have been discredited often enough by now that people should know better.And remember, there is some godawful development coming to a location near YOU soon, and Ealing Planning Committee will grant it.  Go figure.That is all.

Kate Crawford pretty much always votes in favour of granting - whatever the merits of the proposal. If she had gone the other way, the Oaks would not have been passed.And we know from the Oaks that the planning committee can be beastly under-informed, even misinformed and it makes no difference.Acton Central councillors would speak against - but one never has a vote on planning committee and the other doesn't do voting on things that actually concern his ward.

So now we can expect more pollution and premature deaths.  Not forgetting the extra burden on the NHS to treat respiratory disease, such as asthma and COPD.  Children will be more at risk of contracting these diseases.  Let's nor forget cardiovascular disease.Could we see justice at the local elections, by unseating those who voted in favour.  I take it the chair was Labour, and as has already been stated, Labour are in favour of expanding the site. Health means little, over business rates.We should make more complaints to the relevant agencies every time there is a spike in the pollution levels.  We have the right to breath clean air, not cement dust.I did say in a previous thread, we would be betrayed, by Kate Crawford.  This could be the deed that gets her ousted.

I just want to commend Rosco for his reasonable thoughtful presentation. Easily the best speaker of the evening. The pollution expert seems to remain of the view that as we find it difficult to apportion blame for the pollution amongst the businesses on the site we should not curtail their activities beyond some very minor conditions. I think we should consider suggesting that all businesses cease activity once the monitor shows red. What do you think?

The Horn Lane Monitor has been monitoring and recording the pollution in Horn Lane for NINE years now.And STILL, "The Authorities" claim they know not who produces the filth and therefore cannot enforce or prosecute.WHY do we put up with this sheer incompetence and utter crap from "Government"?
