redevelopment

Good news !! the oaks can be redeveloped. About time as it needs it.It can only do good for the area. There is already congestion all over London which happens in a major city , so a bit more won't make any diffrence. Peopel should be grateful developeres want to attract business and good quality business and people to the area , rather than the shops we currently have in Acton which leave a lot to be desired.

So I am a criminal who  has a new identity as I am so scared that stating my opinion will upset a few people!!  The fact that people are so small minded  on here sums it up really and I can see why the development is going ahead. Change happens otherwise things stagnate. As do people If they still long enough. I do not state  my own opinion on here to suffer abuse from people who do not and will never know me so if you don't like what I say then just don't reply!!  As for the development it  can't happen soon enough.

As ever Lesley, true to form.  It's been a long time since you last posted.  Thought the Wicked Queen had given you an apple.You may be in favour of the development as it stands, fair enough, but, there are those who are not happy with a tower block reducing the light to their properties.  Also the way this whole process was railroaded through by Ealing council.  We in the immediate area have concerns, so stay safe in your distant castle, where you will not have to endure the eyesore that is going to hit us.Do I sense the upper case rant on the horizon?Peter...stay tuned

Just like to point out that Waitrose have yet to sign on the dotted line and the Council car park which is pivotal to the development remains in Council hands. Do I hear someone crowing too early?

How rude - what a discourteous thing to say!And you are obviously not going to be living in the shadow of the 9-storey tower block planned for the Oaks, so are hardly in a position to criticise those living locally who are lamenting the effect the new development will have on their lives.

I can take or leave Waitrose but let's get real about local shops! They have to offer more than their location. I popped into a couple of Churchfield Road shops with a friend recently. In one the only member of staff (possibly the owner) barely looked up from their book as we, the only customers, browsed and there were no pleasantries as we handed over our cash. Second shop was the same - minus the reading of the book. Nice to have a coffee shop and cakes but not at extortionate prices. Local is not always best. I'm happy to support local businesses when I feel they deserve my business.

Lesley, No one knows anyone connected to ARC. The owner lives on a boat off Bermuda. Too rich and too averse to paying tax to live anywhere real like Acton. That is the kind of person who will benefit from this development. And since when are people who use local business snooty? I had the most delicious coffee in Fields this morning in the sunshine. Do I deserve to be called names by you? I can see you like a row but small business should not be your target.

Of course many peoiple will welcome Waitrose. that's not really the point. It would be perfectly possible to have Waitrose and a reasonable development without a tower on Churchfield road and with some public space. This is a cheapo, poorly designed effort predicated on a) Acton should be grateful for anything and b)a wholly out of date estimate on how much the developers will be able to sell the 142 apartments for. As this has gone up exponentially over the last couple of years, the developer could easily afford to accede to all the community requests and still turn a tidy profit.I don't think anyone campaigning against THIS development, was against ANY development. We just took the view - unfortunately not shared by either Ealing Council nor the developers - that Acton and its people deserve better.

I don't think there has been any slander so far. Calling people names, though maybe unfortunate, isn't slander which has to be published, untrue and likely to diminish you in the eyes of right-thinking people.And you can easily find out where people live without breaching any data protection rules: directories, election lists, acquaintances, jigsaw identification.I always wonder why people threaten litigation on these fora so profligately and with no justification.

So Lesley - if you are interested in slander/defamation - though in this case libel - look at Emma's post.Perfectly OK to say "she pops round for free booze and fags" but only if you can prove it, because it would tend to make right-thinking people think poorly of you. And the onus is on the person making the statement to prove it's true. Plus a forum like this would count as publishing (I seem to recall that even a postcard does!)

If she is like our Acton Central councillor on the planning committee, she wont be voting on anything sensitive in her own ward.He didn't vote on the Oaks. Apparently it was a conflict of interest to actually represent the views of the electorate - you know, the ones to whom it might make a significant adverse difference - on the committee. So the decision was left to those who don't (theoretically) have any electoral skin in the game.A cop-out in my view.

But it doesnt always happen. Councillors are expected to declare an interest where they have a personal involvement but there is no requirement for them to come off the Rota.

What you mean to say is, for three and a half years she does nothing, except screw up Acton Central, then six months before the local elections, she expects people to fall at her feet.If you knew what I know.Here's another revelation, it comes under criminal damage.Windscreens written on with marker pen, all because someone dared to park full or partially in an ADVISORY ONLY (orange sign) disabled bay.  Not BLUE enforceable.Yes it can be proved.  Fantastic confrontation between Kate and my neighbours daughter,
