Horn Lane industrial estate liaison meeting with residents 20 March
Crossrail and GLA reps were both at yesterday’s meeting in addition to the usual gang of businesses, residents, council people, Environment Agency, MP. A few things to come out of the meeting:Gowing and Pursey confirmed that they expect to be off the site in the next 4-6 weeks, moving to larger, purpose built premises in Park Royal. It’s not clear what will replace them: a waste recycling company has already applied to the Environment Agency to use the site. The EA is obliged to consider their application, however, they are reducing the volume of materials that can be handled at the site from 35,000 tonnes a year to 17,000. This probably makes the site too small to be economic for most waste/recycling operators; the new application is to handle 75,000 tonnes a year at the site which we hope means it has not a prayer of being approved.Future of the GP site is not clear in planning terms as the Council’s current policy encourages industrial activities to be concentrated around here, but common sense says Crossrail means this land may have more value in other uses, eg. office space. The planning great and good from Ealing and the GLA to be invited to the next meeting to discuss.Hanson: planning conditions with their application to be confirmed and we’re expecting a planning officer to explain at the next meeting how they will be enforced (thanks for your response Rosco – I know it’s coming!).Much shenanigans again about pollution data monitoring and when we could use it to assign responsibility for PM10 levels. Angie Bray and I had a competition as to who could be grumpiest with the EA for delaying when they could produce any report on their monitoring (I think it was a tie). A report promised for our next meeting in June.
