Recycling Old Video Tapes

I have got rid of my old video recorder and now need to get rid of a load of Videos. Charity Shops don't seem to want them anymore so can they be recycled?

Can be taken to local recycling centre in Stirling Road but worth putting on freecycle as some people still use them.

Or try streetbank - all sorts of people want all sorts of things there... just disposed of a duvet in under 24 hours!

I've just complained about them being advertised as being collected at Stirling Road on the LBE website and then finding on going there no facility and being told to put them in the general waste.  I can do that at home.Most places that do take them only want the pre-recorded type.Try Streetbank, Ealing Freecycle, Gumtree, Preloved etc etc.  There will be people who have not/are unable to embrace all the new technology and unfortunately as such those people may not be on the web.  When I was last at Charing Cross Hospital the League of Friends shop took them.  This question has been asked recently on the Ealing and Chiswick websites.

Thanks for your responses. I worked in Germany for 5 years back in the early 90s and used to order films from the UK so have around 60-70 films. It is a shame just to dump them,

I agree and this is where something like ebay is so wonderful.  It is accessed by so many people and people don't have to travel to find what is in stock. You just have to use the right words to find what you are looking for - which can be easier said than done - of course.I spent a lot of time recently looking for audio cassettes for someone who'll never get the hang of downloaded stuff let alone imagine all the technology there is now.  A simple cassette machine with big buttons that you can feel (unlike all the flush and touch screen stuff which is hopeless when you can't see) was what we eventually found worked. Now we have to encourage and prompt the use it until it becomes a habit - as it is a case of out of sight and out of mind.Memory is multi-sensory!

Looked up recent thread on Ealing website.  LBE Greenford apparently has a Salvation Army bin for pre-recorded vids.BHF West Ealing takes pre-recorded vids sometimes!

The Scope charity shop on the high street has some on the shelves, although you'd gave to enquire whether they will still take them.
