According to the Evening Standard...

Acton is where people move from Notting Hill, when they can't afford to trade up from a one or two bedroom flat there. (Looking at the prices in the Homes section, it's not even surprising)

Used to be couples from Shepherds Bush moving from flats to houses in Acton, then starting a family.Notting Hill, eh?No wonder Acton prices have gone silly.

When I was a student in the 50s, I had 'digs' in Notting Hill 'cos it was very run-down and a grotty place to live - but very cheap. How things have changed.

There's been a load of changes round here - you can tell by the skip to house ratio.And we get something offering a valuation by an estate agent about three times a week. But you have to live somewhere - and I am NOT going to Harlesden - the only affordable place in West London.

I happened to be in Ruislip manor earlier in the year and I was very impressed i must say. The high street had some really interesting little eateries and foodie establishments and it really looked like it was in the middle of a transformation. Technically you'd be in middlesex but it is on the Met & Piccadilly lines and you get a lot for your money with regard to property.Acton is definitely on the up. My wife recently sold a £7K dining table to an Acton resident.

On his first visit, he was given a memory test and asked which county he lived in, which foxed him rather. Um... Personally, I would have said Middlesex, but what is the answer? Is Greater London a 'county'?

Yes, Greater London is the functional sounding county.  Personally, I wish Middlesex still existed.

Well, it does if we say it does. I always refer to this side of the river as The Middlesex Bank.
