Bingo Hall's Destiny

Do we really want an Oklahoma based faith centre, founded in 2010, in Acton?

The Destiny centre has bought it so I don't suppose our opinion really matters.But they have at least written to the Churchfield Community Association with an outline of their plans - and are meeting the executive next week to outline what they want to do.They sound - on the face of it - quite pro-active about involving themselves with Acton's communities.Maybe they are engaging with other local groups too.

I am not a church goer and I am unlikely to join them but think of all the other  alternatives that could have been taking on the Gala building , Estate agent, pound shop, casino, lap dancing bar....fried chicken outlet... We need to keep a sense of proportion here.  I have no problem with this change of use.

Jane, that would have been top of my wish list too but make sure you sign the petition in support of transforming the old library into a cultural venue with cinemas and theatres and galleries.... There was a maildrop a few days ago.

I think the arts centre scheme is the only hope for a cinema - otherwise its the Lexi two stops one way or the curzon in richmond - and a new picturehouse coming to Chiswick - and the two cinema clubs at the rocket.

I sent the information to my boss who is part owner of the tabard theatre in Chiswick. He is looking for a new theatre venue and I thought it is the perfect site however we were a bit late on the uptake. Shame, if we had known earlier perhaps acton's dreams of a Theatre or cinema would have happened.

Anyone else remember that weird little cinema there used to be -- must have been almost opposite the bingo hall, now I come to think of it -- which was like being in someone's living room? What was it called?

Yes it was part of the big pub - now called Euphorium but then called something else - Captain Cook? I went there a lot as it was so close, but the films were dodgy - I reckon they were pirated as the quality was so poor!

The Destiny church-goers have moved in and started services and some neighbours are very concerned about the noise of  singing emanating from the old Bingo Hall - which hasn't yet got its change of use planning consent, the neighbours say.I wouldn't have thought a bit of singing would be a problem - but apparently the level of amplification means it can be heard inside nearby houses.Anyone else had concerns? And/or taken them up with the church?Midweek services start soon....

I'm not sure the demands they make on their own members - or what they believe - should matter to the wider community. Merely whether their activities impinges negatively on those NOT in their community

Surely the concern over the noise level can be brought to their attention so that adequate sound proofing can be put in place when the building is refurbished. Yes, a cinema would have been nice but think of all the other uses it could have been put to.
