A guided walk exploring Brentford’s layered history – from riverside industry to rowdy taverns – is set to return later during the Brentford Canal Festival weekend.

Writer and London guide will lead Goe no more to Brainford, an immersive tour running on Saturday 20 June (10:55–16:30) and Sunday 21 June (10:46–16:30).

Organised by Minimum Labyrinth, which has been curating immersive experiences across London for over 20 years, the walk blends literary, architectural and social history with personal storytelling, often drawing on lesser-known narratives and overlooked corners of the city.

At its heart, the Brentford walk combines local history with a deeply personal story. Described by its creator as a “personal journey”, it traces the life of Robert Kingham’s grandfather – born in Brentford in 1889 – and his family’s connections to trades such as watermanship, basket-weaving and gasworks.

The walk’s unusual title is taken from a 1609 verse by Thomas Ravenscroft:

> “Goe no more to Brainford vnlesse you loue a Punke,
> for that wicked sinnefull towne hath made me drunke,
> come follow me.”

This satirical rhyme points to Brentford’s long-standing reputation as a place of both revelry and disorder – themes that still echo through the town’s history and form part of the journey.

Participants can expect a rich and varied route featuring tranquil waterways, art deco architecture and historic pubs, alongside stories of migration, labour and urban change. Organisers say the walk offers a “layered portrait” of Brentford as a place shaped by movement and transformation – a town that is, by some accounts, older than London itself, and at times more unruly.

With pub stops along the way and a focus on both the well-known and the overlooked, the event aims to bring together Brentford’s colourful past and its quieter riverside charm.

Bookings for both dates are now open, with further details available via the organiser’s website. Tickets cost £17.50,
