exciting Rocket Pub news!

So i had a wonderful meal at Tailor Made on Churchfield Road over the weekend and got chatting to the manager Michael. He told me that they are taking over the lease of the Rocket Pub from beginning of July and will be transfering the food from Tailor Made over there and giving the place a much need change of layout and decor. This is amazing news, as the current Polish landlord had pretty much ran the place into the ground, the atmosphere is terrible and the food and layout is really poor, so would be great to get another pub rescued in Acton. He also told us that the current Tailor Made will become a burger joint (im guessing a Byron / Honest burger type place) so we end up with 2 great places to eat and a pub saved!

Donald

Find these protests against Donald Trump embarrassing, does anyone else feel the same, know we object to a lot of his policies but as a businessman  protests will have no effect on him whatsoever.

Terrapins in Barrons Pond

Sitting on the top deck of an E3 bus this afternoon, as it stopped at the bus stop by Barrons Pond on Popes Lane I looked down and could see a Red Eared Terrapin slowly crawling through the mud. Because of the recent hot weather the water was very low and this poor mud caked creature was having to struggle to a great degree.Having had several of these fascinating animals as pets as a child it felt terrible watching it struggle. As there seems little chance of this pond being cleaned up in the near future I thought it would be a good idea if these terrapins [I have no idea how many there are] could be transfered to the new pond in Gunnersbury Park, the one by the Orange House which has recently by been completed. There may be good reasons why this would'nt be possible, such as a threat to the biodiversity to the new pond, plus Barrons Pond is in the Borough of Ealing and the park is in Hounslow, but these seem minor considerations compared to the plight of these poor creatures. As I have no idea how or who to approuch about this problem I thought I'd ask the good people of this forum for any thoughts or advice.

Water for birds (and hedgehogs)

If you have a bird bath or a shallow bowl you can put in your gardens or on your balconies, please remember to keep them topped up with water, as the birds are desperate for a drink at the moment. If you have a garden that is hedgehog accessible, remember to put a bowl of water out for them too.

Station House - despite new chef and up market menu the management is aggressive and rude

I was excited as a local resident to try the new menu at the Station House.I like to support local business. I arrived to find a table outside ( incredibly lucky ) got menus . I go to the Station house a lot and know many of the staff so somewhat surprised when the " manager " told me my wine from Park and Bridge wasnt allowed and he would need to remove it despite me saying I wanted to order drinks and food. Anyway he took my wine away and I went inside to order. I decided with the football screen inside and general noise outside to leave. I explained that due to the football I would eat at home but return another night and asked for my wine back . I THEN got a string of abuse and decided to leave.Clearly the manager of thought I was going to drink the wine I bought and not buy drinks BUT as I was originally about to order drinks and food and he has confiscated my outside purchase..  The abuse was in called for... As a guy in his late 50s and a regular surely the mgt could have used his judgement and not tried to screem at me .This is a real shame as I won't return but I suspect they won't care but if they are serious of becoming an restaurant and not a pub with pizza the ATTiTUDE need to change

Tarantella Acton - Closing down

I was having another excellent meal in Tarantalla tonight which,as per usual, was virtually empty. I told the owner that I wish he had opened on Churchfield Road, as it would have been much busier. He told me, many people had told him that, but it was too late for him and that he will be closing down. The hideous high street claims another victim!I'm gutted.

Plastic Free July is here - Make an effort to at least reduce the plastic in your life

See front page article and join the Challenge.  You can aim really high - but just REDucing is a success you can build on!There's lots of info now out there and single-use plastics is a good place to start.http://www.actonw3.com/default.asp?section=info&link=http://neighbournet.com/server/common/conplasticfreejuly001.htmYou can start by making the point of saying "No thank you" to plastic straws when you order your drink in a pub or restaurant because generally you won't have ordered the plastic straw it just arrives uninvited with your drink.  Paper ones still exist if you really need one or bring your own:https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/food-drink/best-reusable-straws-for-environment-hot-drinks-coffee-a8369031.html
