Cleaner

I am on the search for a cleaner. Two hours every two weeks, about £11 per hour.  I am at the Horn Lane end of Lynton Road.

Southfield Playing Fields

The idea of extending the already large children's playground in Southfield Playing Fields is barking.  With most of the park turned over to football on a Sunday and often at other times too, two large tennis courts, a lot of gym equipment and very long uncut grass and nettle-filled 'wild' areas taking up most of the park there are too few places to walk and picnic in a pretty small park already.  I have taken photos on consecutive days at various times of the day  over the last week at various times of the day and evening and there has never been more than 4-5 children and parents in the existing playground which apart from maybe a couple of hours after school on hot days during the summer is very under-used.    Has the council actually been to see it?  I wrote to them and they said the extension is for 'planned population growth'.  Where are the additional people going to come from?  There is no space to build more housing and parents with children aren't going to come from miles away to a small park when 5 minutes up the road Acton Park has all the facilities that could be desired.  They put our council tax up to waste it on hare-brained, pointless schemes like this.  Why not water fountains so people don't need to bring plastic bottles (usually left behind) in the park, or gates onto Southfield Road so dogs and foxes can't easily run across and cause traffic accidents that I have seen numerous times.  It is stark staring bonkers.

Barbara speake stage school and agency

If anybody is thinking of attending the Barbara speake stage school and agency please think carefully After being ignored for several weeks Miss Speake finally responded to my social worker. As you can see from the letter she states she is perfectly within her rights as an independent school to exclude a child if the parent is causing trouble.she describes what i have said as slander and that she had complaints about me over a long period of time, she also states a meeting which issues were raised and discussed and that i chose to pass on to other parents. Let me clarify a few things There is no mention of my daughter, she made it very clear she is an independent school and basically its her way or the high way, she also says parents complained about me and that i was a nuisance, if this is true why wasn't i informed that people had been talking about me in such a way that it was deemed so bad she had to expel my daughter. Miss speake is very good at speaking her mind and pulling people into the office and as i was on the school premises so much why didn't she do this? why did she listen to people and not talk to me directly after all i have know her and most of the teachers for over 20 years, This gets me onto my meeting with miss speak i chose to talk to her as a curtesy as i did respect her  and  I wanted to inform her about my withdrawal from the agency and the reasons for it and that i thought she should look into shereen the agent because i feel she ripped me off £70, i showed her all my paperwork as evidence and by her own admission she wasn't happy about the 800 casting app which shereen was promoting and as she was coming in for a meeting later that day she would bring it up with her.with regards to issues raised in the meeting it was only about the 800 casting app nothing more and yes i did tell people who asked because i didn't want anyone to be ripped off even though i was the only idiot to buy it.Miss speak has described what i have said as slander does she actually know what it means because everything i have said is the truth and if asked i have evidence to back EVERYTHING i have said up.Miss speak on the other hand uses her voice and people around her to say and do things to make her look good or even vanrable   Slander oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another which untruth will harm the reputation of the person so if anyone is causing Slander it is Miss Speak.

Tamara tells new decor

They have changed the sign to wood with red 3D letters (think Nando’s!) and put opaque screening in the windows.  So all those who were put off by the decor, give them a try.Lovely staff and great food.  And I promise, you don’t actually need jabs to venture onto the High Street...! Also don’t forget Fragola for excellent Joe Delucci ice cream (opposite the gym!)

Anyone know a good local mechanic?

Can anyone please recommend a good reliable local (VW) mechanic in the Acton area? Preferably (but not necessarily) someone who is mobile. I'm resorting to asking for word-of-mouth recommendations as web searches have not yielded anyone useful. Thank you.

Acton Post Office to close?

I was in the PO about a week ago and in the queue were two ladies discussing this point. What little information they had and shared was the building which is clearly showing its age is up for lease renewal and the PO it is rumoured will not be renewing. From subsequent reading (the attached Evening Standard article on last year's closures) this seems like this could be part of the 2018 year's round of ongoing cuts and downsizing of post offices.https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/post-office-set-to-close-or-franchise-12-branches-across-the-capital-a3437426.htmlHaving experienced the dreadful Ealing PO relocation (from the prior PO building to the back of W H Smiths on Ealing Broadway) and the PO at Chiswick (now a franchise and the worse for it as numerous postings on W4.com will confirm) I have increasingly used Acton PO which is by far a more efficient and user friendly model and would be a sad community loss given its proximity to the open market and Morrisons area.Does anybody know any more and if it is true, whether any local alternative or response is planned?

New Estate Agent on High Street

Noticed a new estate agent has opened on the High Street - where the pub used to be on the corner - Kinleigh Folkard and Hayward.  Wish useful shops would actually open on the high street, which is in dire need of proper shops.  No more of what there already is plenty of - please!

1930's Maldon Road on Talking Pictures TV last night

I received a phonecall yesterday from my sister in law to tell me that Maldon Rd, Acton was on Talking Pictures last night at 19.55 for 5 minutes. We decided to record this. Amazed to see Maldon Road at a junction with a major thoroughfare. Nothing in the film was recognisable as Acton. A recent visit to Colchester made us think and a bit of internet research made us conclude that this film footage was in Colchester! Did anyone else see this film?

Acton Gridlock

It seems to be every day that Acton High Street is utterly gridlocked.  Took me 30 minutes to get from the Town Hall to the Red Lion on a bus for shopping today.  The same on Thursday. It's got worse.All very well building thousands of flats but how about doing something sensible about the traffic? (don't know what though!)

Local Election and Candidates at the Hustings - feedback from attendees

I was unable to attend. It would be useful if someone who was at the hustings could give a brief overview of topics covered and individual candidates' views on any controversial issues. I think that the manifestos of party candidates are laid out in their leaflets etc. But what about the independents?

The Churchfield Community Association and St Mary's church in Acton are jointly organising a hustings for the local elections on Thursday 26 April at 7.30 pm at St Mary's church . Doors open at 7.15. We have confirmation that the 4 main parties plus one independent plus the Polish Pride party are participating. Please come along to quiz the candidates. All are welcome - you don't have to be a CCA member or church goer to come along.
