Chiswick House Opera tonight and tomorrow

Barber of Seville and Cosi Fan Tutte this year. It's looking good for a lovely evening in Chiswick House Grounds. Pathetic sentencing by our courts?

Andy Coulson gets 18 months for phone hacking. Nine months and out.Rolf Harris gets 5 years and 9 months for 12 counts of child indecent assault.  At least there was consecutive sentencing.Time our legal system got out of the dark ages, and got rid of the guidelines of the time when the crimes were committed.

The Oaks Judicial Review

Ealing Council's premature Press Release crowing about the 'failure' of the Judicial Review was just that - premature. The Oaks Action Group has been advised by JR specialists Leigh Day (who are acting for the Group on a no-win no-fee basis) that there are strong grounds for challenging Mr. Justice Mitting's ruling. That challenge goes back into Court tomorrow. We may indeed yet lose the legal fight - but we believe we have proved the Council failed in its duty to ensure the Planning Committee wasn't Whipped to pre-determine the 7-6 approval majority. We won't be giving up just yet.....

Not well enough to attend ward forum.  Could someone deal with the following?

The only ward councillor who appears to be active on the pollution issue is Abdullah.We have to keep the pressure on and make sure the residents get what is their right for cleaner air and less noise.I hope to visit the Japanese Nursery School which is an ethical issue.Has Abdullah done this?  If so could we have some feed back!As we know, the Crawfords are not interested in the pollution issue and Kate is on record as saying:If we did not pass the retrospective planning application, the Planning Inspector would have do so on appeal.How does she know this?  Explanation required!Hansons say they have difficulties in implementing the conditions in the planning approval.They cannot enclose the conveyor belt transporting the aggregate and the tree screening, just to mention two points. (a) the dust is still allowed to pollute the area and (b) they are unable to contain the noise nuisance emitting from the conveyor belt.These two factors should be reason to retract the planning application.After nine years of monitoring, the EA cannot define who the polluters are. G&P Hansons or others.  I understand that G&P have moved, yet the pollution levels remain high.  Aggregates have put measures in place to contain dust, while Hansons have done nothing to reduce PM 10 emissions.  Who's the culprit?  If we can work it out, how come the EA are baffled!What do the councillors from Acton central and east Acton intend doing about the pollution issue that blights our lives and health.  We have the same bunch we had four years ago, and nothing was done, what do they intend to do now?  Our councillors need to push home the pollution issue.  If they are not prepared to tackle this issue, WHY NOT?Could Ealing council carry out more spot checks on the Industrial site.  Could they explain why, when there are high levels of pollution, the site does not shut down, until the levels drop down to a safe level.  Is this about money that the operators do not shut down, or a breach of conditions?  Why do Ealing council refuse to implement the rules and regulations and impose fines on perpetrators?I'm sure there are other questions that require answers, and pressure needs to be put on our less than active councillors.  Could someone put the feed back on the forum.Apologies for my absence, but my health comes first.

Abu Qatada to be released on bail??????

Qatada, who is being held in high security conditions, wants to be released on bail as he fights deportation to Jordan.But lawyers for Home Secretary Theresa May are battling to keep him behind bars while British diplomats continue to seek assurances from the Jordanian authorities that evidence gained through torture would not be used against him.Ed Fitzgerald QC, representing Qatada, told an immigration judge in central London that Qatada had now been held for six-and-a-half years while fighting deportation.He told the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) that that was "against a background of almost nine years detention without charges on the grounds of national security".Mr Fitzgerald said: "The detention has now gone on for too long to be reasonable or lawful and there is no prospect of the detention ending in any reasonable period.

Acton Carnival July 5th - tombola request

I have passed on the mantle of doing the tombola to another poor CCA member....but have been digging around for contributions and wondered if some of you might do so too.Have found a bottle of blackcurrant daquairi (who would give us that?) and a bottle of Limoncello (ditto) and several boxes of xmas tea and a table runner, marzipan & liqueur chocolates (one of each - the thought of marzipan liqueur chocs almost too awful to contemplate!) and scented candles.Personally, I don't like "stuff". Questors Choir, beautiful songs from Elgar and Brahms

Horn Lane Pollution monitoring station is affiliated to Defra AURN :-

So, the "monitoring" continues apace and more money spent to prove there's a problem, which has already been proven for the past 9 years.Now, when will The Authorities actually DO something and STOP the pollution?=====================================================================The monitoring station at Horn Lane in Acton has recently been upgraded to include an FDMS PM10 instrument, funded and operated by Defra as part of the AURN.The small monitoring cabinet has been replaced by a larger walk-in cabin to accommodate the additional instrument. This will report reference equivalent PM10 measurements to the European Commission and has been added to the network following Defra’s regular 5 year review of measurements on the national network.John Freeman, Team Leader of the Pollution Technical Team at Ealing Council, said, "We welcome the addition of new measurement instrumentation and the inclusion of the site on the AURN. This will help the council - and other organisations - to continue.The FDMS replaces the TEOM as the particulate measurement source for the Horn Lane dataset and can be found from here. Deceased Cat

There is a cat that has died on Westbourne Avenue.  There doesn't appear to be any sign of injury.   It is on the pavement (opposite that flats at the Emmanuel Avenue end)It is a predominantly white cat with ginger markings on it's back.   If you know who the cat belongs to perhaps you could let them know. I am sure it must have had a home.

Hello allOn Sunday 31 August 2014, Paul Higham – gentleman of this fair city, long-time resident of Goldsmith Avenue, debonair, handsome, bon viveur and all-round good egg – will cycle 100 miles to help beat blood cancer.Because four years ago, his son Jake was diagnosed with leukaemia. Virgin Media failure

Yesterday our broadband, TV and telephone all failed, this was supposed to be rectified by 2pm this afternoon.A while ago the TV service resumed and thankfully the broadband but we still have a phone line as dead as a dodo.Has anyone else had this problem?Sometimes it is not a good idea to rely on 1 provider for everything!

After 13 years I'm Acton, we decided it was time to leave on a high. New owners have been refurbishing for the past few weeks and ting tong thai opens on 27 June (with a big big grand opening shortly after).Thanks to everyone who supported us since opening in 2001 and making it a very enjoyable part of our lives.We are now moving to the south coast for new experiences and adventures.
