Hammersmith nudes' murders 1959-1965

Bit of a long shot but: On Friday 8th November 1963 at Richmond and Barnes Council's refuse tip near the River Thames at Mortlake the body of 22 year old Welsh girl Gwynneth Rees was found dead beneath 2 feet of compacted ash. A man named Frank Bennett aged 54 told the police that the road leading to the refuse tip was a favourite spot for courting couples. Can anyone tell me if they knew Frank Bennett. 3 more good things about Acton...

1:L'Oriental on Churchfield; went to collect a takeaway on Friday & was given olives, bread & pickles while I waited; service v good, food even better than I remembered.2:an evening eating & drinking in The Station House upstairs: great pizzas,good tapas, good beer, excellent service to adults and children alike.3:mark sos.handyman  (from the W3 directory): prompt, punctual, efficient and not horrificaly expensive (unlike MyPlumber.com)Obviously a glass-half-full day!

Open drug dealing - Shaa Road

When?  Tuesday lunchtime, around 1245pmWhere?  Shaa Road near the junction with Perryn Road, W3By whom?  Young black guy on silver moped, wearing a coat and a helmet selling to a slightly older white guy, probably in his early 30s.  Anyone else seen this activity?  Reported to Police.

Bollo Lane / Gunnersbury Lane Junction

Is anyone else as fed up as I am with the roundabout layout next to Acton Town station? For the past few months the rush hour trafic has been appalling. Some mornings it takes me 15 - 20 minutes to drive 1 mile from the Uxbridge Road/Steyne Road junction down to Gunnersbury Ave. The traffic is log jammed because of the steady stream of pedestrians using the zebra crossing on Bollo Lane and vehicles blocking the roundabout. Last Monday I saw at least 4 cars u-turn to get out of the jam.I've contacted Ealing Council who told me that the current set up will be made permanent with some adjustments. They said that studies have shown that the traffic flow is better, but I've asked to see these as it certainly hasn't improved at peak times.

Gunnersbury Triangle  - Too noisy from tube

Hi all, I live at the Gunnersbury Triangle estate. The tube at night is extremely noisy and flashing lights are coming out of the rails which is disturbing. Has anyone taken any actions for complaining or signing any petition to tfl from the Triangle residents? Has anyone experience the same horrible noise from the tracks at night? Please let me know of your thoughts...

Hi guys,Just wanted to get your thoughts on this and get your feedback!!I am wanting to get my sideline business going,coming to peoples houses when they have had their babies and do a load of batch cooking(say upto a mnths worth of foods)for you to put into the freezer!As some of you know I am a nanny but I also make wheat free cakes to sell to and hopeful taking orders for Xmas cakes in the next couple of weeks!!Any help or feedback would be greatly appreiated on how I can get this batch cooking idea off the ground.Thanks guys,Xavia.

Organised begging for trick or treat

Tonight I warned my staff to watch out for gangs of 'children' begging for trick or treat. Last year we had problems and sure enough tonight they were back and same tactics.The door to the restaurant burst open, about 5 kids rushed in and scattered, going up to diners begging for money. When told its not halloween until sunday and asked to leave, we get abuse (''dont you touch me cos thats assault'') and attitude. When given chocolates, they threw them on the floor. They want cash. Only cash. 2 hours later, we saw a car parked across the road with 2 women rounding up the 'kiddies' and then drove off. Obviously an organised begging group. Not sure exactly what you can do just be warned and be careful as Im sure they will be back again for the next 3 nights and going house to house.

Tracing family - Espley

Recently found out that I had a distant cousin called Walter Espley who manager in 'electric light bulbs' in Acton.  I am in touch with his son from first marriage, who is 70 years old, he then went on to have another relationship and it is thought produced another son. Any old Actonians have any knoweledge of this family?

Underpass at Acton Central

Not sure whether regular Overground users have noticed that the underpass will be closed from Monday 25/10 until Spring 2011. That means making sure that you are the right side of the barriers to catch your train before they go down, ie. leave plenty of time to catch the Richmond train as the barriers go down at least two minutes before the train arrives.

Anyone else effected by the price rise at the baths?

I'm a member at Acton baths, its great value and I swim there 3-4 times a week.  And on a Sunday I take my son swimming at Gurnell.This weekend the baths returns to the council.  So while my membership will still let me swim there I'll need to pay when I go to Gurnell.At £3.50 a swim this works out at £14 a month, or a greater than 50% increase.Am I the only one this hits?
