Cake maker recommendation

Hello everyoneWe've just moved to the area and are celebrating my husband's 30th birthday next week. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a local cake baker? We used to live in East Dulwich before here and were spoilt for choice when it came to cakes etc. Wonderful ladies who charged reasonable price and used fresh ingredients.Hoping to find someone in Acton as well.All recommendations are welcome.Thanks

Osteopath Centre for Women and children New - Putney

The Occ is moving to 22a Point Pleasant, Wandsworh, SW18 1GG. Tel 0207 490 5510 on Tues 1st Feb. This centre is for pregnant women before and after giving birth and children up to 18 years old. They are fantastic at dealing with stressed angry children, disabilities, feeding and sleeping difficulties and the strains of growth spurts.They are a registered charity and are staffed by consultants who want to bring Cranial osteopathy to a wider range of people. - Harley St treatment at a fraction of the price! They ask for a donation towards the cost.I really recommend them - they are the most child friendly place we have ever been and nothing phases them. Please post this to anyone who could benefit - there are plenty of slots available while they are still unknown there.

Advance Warning A40 Western Ave near Gypsy Corner

For information essential 24 hr road works on the A40 Western Avenue at Gypsy Corner from Sunday 23rd January until Friday 28th January, details follow:"TfL have given advanced warning of the forthcoming works that National Grid Gas (NGG), AboveNet, and TfL have to undertake on the Transport for London Road Network between Park View and Wales Farm Road on the A40 Western Avenue. NGG will be carrying out urgent works to repair a gas leak on an essential trunk main located in the eastbound carriageway of the A40 Western Avenue. To take full advantage of the traffic management restrictions and also to minimise future disruption, AboveNet will be completing phase 2 of their duct installation along this route.TfL will also be carrying out essential highway maintenance works. The works are scheduled to begin 22:00 Sunday 23 January, with an anticipated end date of Friday 28 January. Contractors will be working 24 hours a day to ensure that these works are completed as quickly as possible. As a result of these works, the following temporary traffic measures will be put in place: 1) Lanes two and three eastbound will be closed between Victoria Road and Wales Farm Road2) Lane three westbound will act as a contra-flow for eastbound traffic, to maintain two lanes in both directions3)There will be no right turn out of Wales Farm Road and Horn Lane4) The speed limit will be reduced from 40mph to 20mph throughout the work area TfL anticipate some disruption to vehicular traffic.  To mitigate the anticipated disruption, we will have electronic Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) in the area to pre-warn drivers of these works. Stained Glass

Another lie from Toby

Did anybody see the interview with TY on the local news tonight?  He again claimed that the WLFS funding has not come at the expense of other schools.On the 18th June 2010, when the government announced the creation of Free Schools, they also announced that £50M of the capital funding for them would come out of this year’s Harnessing Technology Grant.  This meant a budget cut to all schools to fund this folly.I think it is a disgrace that this happened, a disgrace that TY lies on record again and again about it and a disgrace that the BBC let him get away with it.

Can I draw people's attention to the story on the front page about an elderly couple being conned out of £6,000 last Friday. They were my next door neighbours and are a lovely couple.Please look at the description of the man I saw and his vehicle and be vigilant on behalf of any old and vulnerable neighbours you might have.

Petitions - and how to present them - may be of interest

'A new way to have your say (PR 276)10 January 2011Ealing residents are now able to submit petitions to the council online.The new e-petitions website allows people to start an online petition, helping to potentially reach a much wider audience and gather more support than traditional paper petitions. People can also support existing petitions on the website by adding their name and address.The website supports three different types of petition – ordinary petitions, petitions for debate and petitions to hold an officer to account.Petitions for debate must have at least 1,500 signatures, or 750 signatures where it is an issue that affects no more than two local wards.  These will be automatically reported to and debated at a full Council meeting.Petitions to hold an officer to account must have at least 750 signatures, or 300 where it is an issue that affects no more than two local wards.  These will be considered at a meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee. The appropriate council officer will be required to answer questions.Submissions should include a short statement introducing the subject of the petition, the name and contact details of the petition organiser.  Full instructions on how to start a petition are available.The petition must relate to an issue that the council has either responsibility for or influence over. All petitions submitted to the website will be monitored on a regular basis and made available to councillors.Councillor Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council, said: “The council is committed to using modern technology where we can to make it easier for residents to get involved in local democracy and the new e-petition website is a safe, easy and accessible way for people to have their say.”“People can also get involved in local democracy by attending council meetings, taking part in consultations and voting in elections.”The online petition site is not for consultation being undertaken by the council, for example on planning and licensing applications, or that being taken under specific legislation such as calling for an elected mayor.'

New book launch: Who was Jack the Stripper.

My second True Crime Story: Who was Jack the Stripper? will be launched at Abertillery Library sometime in March/April 2011. The book launch will coincide with a 1 hour drama/documentary to be aired throughout Britain and Europe focusing on Harold Jones, the killer of 2 school children in Abertillery, South Wales in 1921. (Google Harold Jones - The Welsh Killer, or Neil Milkins, or Jack the Stripper.)The documentary will be presented by television presenter and Kray Twins biographer Fred Dineage MBE and top British criminologist and criminal profiler Professor David Wilson. Jones was 15 when he murdered 8 year-old Freda Elsie Maud Burnell and 11 year-old Florence Irene Little in 1921. Jones was released from prison in 1941 having served 20 years for his crimes and owing to the turmoil of World War 11 he went off the police radar. During the times of the unsolved murders of 8 women in the Hammersmith district of London between 1959 and 1965, Jones lived in the Hammersmith district using various aliases. (He lived in Fulham, Putney and Hammersmith between 1947 and 1971 when he died.) Police convoy

Did anyone see the police convoy on the Uxbridge road at 7pm last night. I arrived at the bottom of Birbeck road as 3 motorcycle outriders passed, with the front one blocking a side road until a convoy caught up. They were all passing traffic by travelling on the wrong side of the road and something like 8 silver vans and a blacked out 4x4 with a LED police sign in the back passed by. I didn't even get the chance to lean in a window and poke the occupant with a stick to see who it was!

Estoril has gone

I thought the Portueguese cafe with the great custard tarts was flourishing - it always looked busy.But it has gone and a bright new Indian restaurant is about to open in its place
