Last Chance: London Air Quality We Want Your Views
The GLA want residents views on London's Air Quality, their consultation ends on 13th August 2010. Given that:1. Our area suffers from high levels of air pollution both in Nitrogen Dioxide and PM10 particles 2. The already delayed extension to the Low Emission Zone and the recent consultation to delay implementing it again. 3. Local residents attended the Mayors Peoples Question Time, 3rd March 2010 in Harrow and asked the Mayor the following question:- a) What urgent steps does the Mayor intend to take on the TfL-managed A40 trunk route in Acton, West London to reduce the exposure of residents to nitrogen dioxide pollution that is currently 30-50% above the annual Air Quality Objective for nitrogen dioxide? b) What area-specific measures will the Mayor include in his new Air Quality Strategy to reduce emissions from vehicles using the A40 in Acton, West London, in order to deal with the breaches of the EU's Limit Value for nitrogen dioxide?Transport for London (TfL) response on behalf of the Mayor’s office in relation to questions raised:"Unfortunately, we do not have any plans specifically aimed at the area around the A40 in Acton to reduce the nitrogen dioxide pollution. We have recently finished consulting to defer the extension of the Low Emissions Zone, it was originally intended to include larger vans and minibuses in the LEZ from October 2010. A variation order has been made to defer this until January 2012, and the consultation on this change has now closed. A decision by the Mayor on the outcome of this consultation is due in the Autumn."Given the above I thought you might be interested in taking part in the following consultation if you have not already done so already.If you would like to take this opportunity to raise any concerns that you may have with the high levels of Nitrogen Dioxide or PM10 particles please take part in the following consultation:The public consultation on the Mayor's Air Quality Strategy is now extended until 13 August.Health study and Integrated Impact Assessment report now published online To help inform the consultation process for the Mayor's draft Air Quality Strategy, the GLA has today published on its website the Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) Report for the draft Strategy, along with the report of a study into the impacts on health of poor air quality in London. These documents can be viewed on the GLA website at www.london.gov.uk/consultation/air-qualityIn order to provide consultees with time to consider these documents, the consultation period on the draft Air Quality Strategy is being extended to 13 August 2010.
