Petition to Keep Wasps in Acton

The professional side of Wasps Rugby is currently in advanced negotiations to move their home base to Coventry. Although the RFU is trying to insist that they remain based in the south east it would only be a matter of time before they moved their training base north from its current site on Twyford Avenue.Wasps training base in Acton is also home to the amateur side of the club including Ladies, senior men, youth and minis. This introduces a new generation of support to the club and several players currently in the Academy started their rugby here. The professional side shares the facilities with the amateurs and pays rent to do so. Without this money rugby may not be sustainable at the site which would be very valuable for redevelopment. Bulb Planting session, Sat 11 October, St Mary's Burial Ground

Help with disability awareness

With my cub pack, we are working to earn their disability aware badge.The object of the exercise is to become aware that people suffer from all types of disability, whether they can be seen or not.I am hoping to find some people who could come down to my scout hut for about 45 minutes for the next couple of Wednesday evenings, to show them how to react better and what to do when they come face to face with somebody that unfortunately does have a disability.Please feel free to contact me, your help would be immense, and I will provide tea and biscuits if it helps.Thank YouGlenn Young - Scout Leader 14th Acton

There have been two reports of burglary in both Churchill Gardens and Friars way over the last couple of days between the hours of 1400 - 2030. Please could all residents ensure all doors/patio doors are locked and alarms are set. If anybody witnesses any suspicious behaviour please call 101. Handyman

Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced handyman in the Acton area that will do a tiny job (hanging blinds on a small kitchen window.  If I wasn't so uselss, I would do it myself!

Fatbergs - are you contributing?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/29015390It would help if people didn't block the sewers by putting stuff down them that shouldn't be down them.When I did some research several years ago I found that there are products marketed as "flushable" yet there appears to be no-one agreeing that our sewage systems can cope with them.  Thames Water-love them or hate them-say that all that should be flushed down the loo is: wee, poo and toilet tissue (ie the tissue paper that is designed to fall apart when wet).Add to that the number of households and commercial organisations who tip oils and fat down the drain and you get these fatbergs.  Companies cooking commercially should get themselves a used cooking oil collection.  In Ealing these used to be free but that may have just been a start-up project.  (There may be a minimum amount but I'm sure that companies can club together.)If one of these commercial companies near me did not appear to be doing this I would introduce them to this website:http://www.properoils.co.uk/Householders can take their used cooking oil to both the Acton and Greenford Reuse & Recycling Centres according to the LBE website.  (Keep separate from engine oil.)Good guidelines here for dealing with used cooking oil here:http://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/reuse-guide/cooking-oil-2/

Who is dumping all the mattresses?

Anyone else noticed the sudden appearance of double mattresses being dumped in Acton?  Rosemount, Alfred and Goldsmith..... spotted today.  Annoying and lazy.....  Also worth noting is that skips are paid for by your neighbours and are not for filling with your old tutt.  Take it to the dump!  Fewwwwmin

BorrowMyDoggie - any good?

We are thinking of getting a small dog as a new member of our family. I came across a site called BorrowMyDoggie.com where you sign up and you can take other people's dogs for walks, etc. I havent had a dog for a good few years and thought that perhaps this would be a great way to get back into the habits of walking a dog and seeing if it is definitely something that we can commit to and at the same time, helping others by walking their dog. Has anyone in Poet's Corner used this site - is it highly recommended? Would love to get some feedback before registering.
