Lying Labour leaflets
It’s the eve of the election and it’s all been (relatively) civilised, but as the local Labour party have put out a couple of leaflets this week that deserve to go back into the gutter from which they were spawned, I’m going throw some of the mud back at them. The missives contain the usual stuff blaming Conservatives for closing two local A&Es. Apparently, there’s news of a secret plan to close them in June (so secret no one knows about them except the Labour party), not quite on a par with Bassam Mahfouz’s leaflet in the 2010 general election that 500,000 nurses resigned in one year under the Tories (fact: total nurse numbers in 1997 were c320k). All fairly predictable. One version of the leaflet says the Tories promised not to sell the Oaks (it was conditional on Labour not forcing through the sale as they’ve done). The other version of the leaflet (circulating in West Acton) has really got up my nose as it shamelessly tries to take credit for efforts to reduce pollution at the Horn Lane industrial estate. What improvements there have been have arisen from the work done by Rosco White, Angie Bray, Nikki Howard, me and a group of other residents who prefer not to take the limelight to put pressure on the Environment Agency and Ealing Council to take action. Labour have ignored the issue, then blamed pollution on traffic and then tried to manage residents’ liaison meetings. Even as they now take the credit they can’t spell Gowing and Pursey correctly (it’s spelt incorrectly in two different ways in their propoganda). What a desperate bunch of shysters.
