Morrison's

Is it just me being 'picky', or have others noticed that Morrison's has gone 'down-hill' recently?I have always supported it, but on my last three visits I have found it to be a mess! They seem to have been stacking the shelves and leaving trolleys of boxes and wheeled rubbish skips around the store. There also seems to be a lot of items out of stock and other goods put in their place on the shelf - thus making the shelves look full, which they are but with the wrong items!My other 'bug-bear' is the piles of boxes of wine/beer/tinned goods/fans/kettles etc. that block the aisles. The aisles are narrow enough without the 'extra' items.Have e-mailed head office who suggest I speak to the general manager, which I will do in due course.

Olympic Opening Ceremony

It seems incredible but its been one year since the Olympic Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012. I remember it well as we had a small TV in the restaurant playing and by 1am we all wanted to go home but wanted to see the lighting of the cauldron. Little did we all know what a games it was going to be.I mentioned this on another forum and how it would have been nice if the BBC were to repeat the ceremony as there is nothing else on TV at the moment. And lo and behold - they are! Saturday 27 July BBC3 7pm.

Brawl on Baldwin Road at 1am

Anyone else woken by the screaming woman and police lights around 1am last night in Baldwin Avenue ...with the heat windows open so heard most of it even though I am round the corner . Sounded vicious and the one police car asked for backupNot the best way to be woken ....Acton night life !!!

Only in Acton (and North China)

We went for the first time in weeks today - time out from the no-carb diet. Not only was the food wonderful, all the better for abstaining for a while, but the place was heaving - on a Tuesday night in late July yet.Every table full and what an eclectic collection: one large group of Chinese-speaking women and children, another mixed Chinese group, a big table of three Polish couples, half a dozen pairs of regulars, an Asian family and a big group which looked if it had come straight from a suburban golf club.Laurence and his team were run off their feet but wholly delightful, as ever.

Changing shops into flats on Churchfield Road

I have seen that there are two planning applications pending decisions to change the use of shops/restaurants on Churchfield Road into flats.Surely this cannot be good for the health of the street let alone how it looks...which usually is not very good.There have been several changes of use of shops to flats in the past few years including one on the corner of Burlington Gardens, one next to Classix Barbers, the old Christian bookshop etc.I for one am not happy with this trend and would love to know what the planning policy is here...if indeed there is one

West Fest

Surprised to not see this mentioned anywhere here.  Did anyone go?  I popped along and saw a couple of great acts, including local band Cats On Ladders (terrible name, but really lovely music) and while I came back to see a band called Manouche, they'd moved everything inside and the upstairs room of the Station House was broiling.  The band sounded fun but there were nly about eight of us there, stewing uncomfortably  I hope they do it again -- I understand they will -- I thought it was a great addition to Acton.

The Industrial Site Meeting.

Some positive results...To deal with overweight vehicles using the bridge.  It was suggested to John Freeman, that a CCTV camera be installed to catch the perpetrators.  The issue was also raised by a resident from Emmanuel Ave. A number of issues were raised with the Environment Agency, Hanson's, Gowing & Pursey, Yeoman Aggregates and Ealing Council and Crossrail. it was pointed out that the overnight noise from Crossrail, could be heard as far as Bollo Ln. (Chiswick end.) We all need our sleep. As to the retrospective planning application By Hanson's, there should be a decision at the end of next week. There seem to be a lot of problems over Hanson's,  Angie Bray raised several issues, the main one being that the conveyor belt should be completely covered. The matter is now in the hands of planning.  Also the noise levels of the conveyor belt were raised.  Hanson's claim working extended hours on Saturday and Sunday was due to Crossrail.  Crossrail claim there is no need to resource from Hanson's.It transpired that G&P had applied for a closed shed, but was rejected by the Council, as the application was not filled in properly.  G&P said they want a closed shed.  Angie asked how long it took to clean the site and, she commented that, she would have preferred to see the site in working condition. No vehicles were on site today.Angie commented that she had been sent a video clip of the dust cloud that emanated from Yeoman (they are now called something else)  Management said that the aggregate is dampened down, but, to much water would stop the aggregate being unloaded, as it would clog up.A number of issues are now in the hands of Ealing Council and the EA.  It was asked what our Councillors are doing, the answer was NOTHING.  They behave like Ostriches.It was suggested that SHLAP and site operators get together every TWO MONTHS, for discussion over issues with the site and residents concerns.  It was accepted that the pollution was still above acceptable limits.  It was pointed out that Hanson's and Yeoman pollution blows over G&P and is recorded as G&P being the main perpetrators as they are closest to the monitor.John Freeman, e-mail:freemanj@ealing.gov.uk  Tel: 020 8825 7226. needs immediate notification of any breeches caused by the site.

Surplus Self Adhesive Cork Tiles

We purchased self adhesive cork tiles to refloor a bathroom. We now have 50+ tiles that are surplus to our requirements. They are fine grain and natural cork colour. They are 4mm thick and each measures 1 foot square and so will cover over 50 square feet of floor.They cost approximately 90p each and so 50 tiles are worth around £45. Any reasonable offer will be considered!

RABBIT found on Gunnersbury Lane

We found a rabbit on 8th July evening grazing in our front garden. After talking to several neighbors it was clear that he/she had been out there for at least 4 nights. It seems that it got lost at the first hot weekend we had here in London. Please, contact me,if you are missing one or could give it a new home as we can not keep it for very long and charity seems as the last option.It's creamy color with grey and little bits of white, extremely friendly, seems healthy. Reporting overweight vehicles using Horn Lane bridge.

From John Freeman at Ealing Council. Further to my previous e-mail about overweight vehicles using Horn Lane bridge I have now been advised by the Council’s Highways department that residents should report any suspected overweight vehicles directly to the Metropolitan Police.  Contravening a weight restriction of this kind is still a criminal offence and is not one of the traffic contraventions such as stopping in a yellow box junction that is enforced by local authorities.  The police number to use is 101.  Further information on using this number can be found at http://content.met.police.uk/Site/101. I am sorry for the delay in obtaining the correct information, however I hope that residents will now be able to provide details of vehicles to the police. Kind regards. New Bakery in Acton High Street

Just to put in a good word for the new Bakery in the High Street. The bread is baked on the premises and I also bought some lovely Carrot Cake. I think the owners are from the Ukraine and were very friendly.

problems with water pressure?

Anyone else having problems with the water pressure lately?  I've noticed for the past 2 weeks it seems very low, at some times of the day I struggle to get the shower to work.  I've checked the Thames Water website, but no problems reported.  A sign of a hosepipe ban to come?

Sparkie needed

Hi, can anyone recommend a well priced local sparkie? I have some garden lights (about 5 spread around), that I want to replace with LED lighting. The existng lights arene't working so needs a qualified electrician - not an odd job all rounder.Any suggestions very gratefully received.Regards, Carl
